Over the next few weeks we will do a four-part series of articles, highlighting the major legislation that passed during the 2004 legislative session. This week is the first in this series, it will focus on efforts that the Legislature made to provide lower taxes to Floridas residents wherever possible.
Lower Taxes
During this past legislative session, House members fought hard to maintain a low-tax, business-friendly approach to government that ensures Floridians have the freedom to pursue their hopes and dreams. Recognizing that Florida families have worked hard, played by the rules, and consistently created quality communities, the Legislature created two forms of family tax relief: a back-to-school sales tax-free week and an 8 cent per gallon tax break.
This year our families can count on help from the state when buying back-to-school supplies and clothes. Between Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, August 1, 2004 sales tax will not be collected on sales of school supplies priced at $10 or less, as well as sales of books, clothing, wallets or certain bags priced at $50 or less.
Over the last few months Floridians have seen gas prices hit record highs. The Florida House of Representatives passed an amendment, with overwhelming bi-partisan support, to provide Floridians with gas tax relief. During the month of August visitors to the gas pump will receive a tax break of 8 cents per gallon. In addition, to ensure that tax relief is passed directly to the consumers the Legislature made it a third degree felony for sellers of motor fuel to retain any part of the tax reduction.
House members are dedicated to ensuring Floridas future without placing the burden on the backs of Floridas working families. We have done this by supporting small business, keeping taxes low, and protecting personal freedom.
One question, and I'm NOT trying to be a wet blanket here.....when are you all gonna do something about your State Supreme Court Justices?
Scripps Biomedical Institute is establishing a large research facility in Palm Beach Gardens - the ancillary businesses that service such a place are wringing thier hands.
Rats have a uphill battle to convince folks that GWB and Jeb Bush have done a bad job.
No state income tax here.
If we just had the same confidence in the Florida Senate, at this point in time I don't.
WE'll get to them!
We're starting with Sen. Jim King

and
Judge George Greer

My state senator is Mike Fasano - he came from the House. He is great. We just have to keep going like that.
King is mine, Jacksonville media won't run anything that he says that isn't 'conservative' even though I've emailed them links. He is more liberal than anything! I wish I had paid better attention to his voting record in previous years. He is about himself...doesn't want the new seatbelt law cause he has trouble wearing his!
