After a brief ceasefire during Laura Bush's appearance, Leno is back to attacking the President. His latest: basically joking (ha ha) that GWB would like to bomb a gay wedding.
Oh, just to make it non-partisan, Kerry was referred to as BORING. Wow, that sure hurts!
Doesn't he make fun, much like southpark, of everybody at one time or another?
He bashes Bush because Kerry is not giving Leno any ammo.
Relax.
I do not watch his show since he kissed up to Clinton.
In general, the President is always made fun of by comedians.
Comes with the territory.
I stopped watching Leno 6 months ago, his humor isnt funny, he has to beg his audience to laugh. I switched over to Letterman.
Just remember that Leno is from Andover Mass.
I watchd the media dinner thing that the President, Laura and many newsreporters and celebs attended. Jay Leno was the speaker/commedian. I felt he bashed Kerry WAY WORSE in his jokes than he did the President. He gives pretty fair equal time in my opinion.
Well, he's 50% right. Kerry IS boring.
Leno bashed Clinton incessantly during his two terms (especially during the 2nd). He's tame with GWB by comparison.
But there is always a more sinister tone associated with republicans.
Since you are new here, you should know that profanity is not allowed.
But it was all about sex and raised WJC's street cred 20 points.
And@over?
I watched this part of his show. His jokes weren't funny and he kept telling him while his audience failed to laugh. I can't imagine why he kept going.
I guess it depends whether the joke strikes home.
Most people think that the gay marriage thing can only help Bush. On the other hand, Kerry is boring.
What struck me most about the Leno monologue - people weren't laughing at the Bush jokes. Everytime one bombed he'd get testy at the audience "oh. I guess you can't handle the serious jokes" or something like that. No. They don't laugh at the unfunny jokes.
Leno's charicature of republicans has always been that they are cold hearted hatemongers. But the jokes aren't working because they're off the mark.
On the other hand, it's apparent that several of his writers listen to Rush Limbaugh religiously, and not just to do "opposition research".
The talk show host who does the best job of not letting ideology get in the way of a funny joke is John Stewart. Politically, he leans way left, but if there's a joke there he'll tell it. More often than not, a joke on the Daily Show will make fun of self-important pomposity in the media or by a politician. Though if it's a toss-up, he'll definitely go for the joke that slams Republicans.
His two big Bush jokes really bombed with the audience - he had to literally beg for reaction, and accused the audience of "not being able to take a joke" for each one.
The first was a lame attempt to be clever about the so-called "wedding party" at the safe house at 2 or 3 AM - he called it an attack on a "gay wedding". But death is not funny and he should have known better.
I don't recall the second, but it was less clever - and even less amusing - than the first, and elicited the same reaction. That was when I shut it off.
Jay Leno's Bush bashing continues..... uh, when did it ever stop? Leno is a known leftie. The same goes for the people on Sat. Night Live.
I get a kick out of the Bush impersonator he has on the show.
