U.S. military denies general witnessed Iraq abuses

The Washington Post, in a story first released on its Web site Saturday night, said a military lawyer stated at an open hearing April 2 that Capt. Donald J. Reese told him that Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez and other senior military officers were aware of the abuse at the prison.

IT is called hearsay for a reason. Someone says that someone says that someone knows something.

Someone told me that Senator Kerry was the one with the glow sticks. If he denies it...it is a cover up. Where is my article?

Notice how the media/dems tend to try to by-pass Gen. Karpinski and go above/around her? She was the General in charge, after all.

I would hope the Lt. Gen. knew of the prison abuse. But when? I hope when he found out it started the investigation

I still have problems as to why the photos were taken, the number of photos taken, and how the media got hold of the photos.

There are to many grunts saying they were told to do this or that, while the brass in charge say they knew/know nothing. Get out your tin foil hats - I still think the orders came down from the liberal politicians, to the liberal brass at the pentagon, and they are going to ruin some reservist civilians lives in an attempt to discredit Bush.

Double hearsay from an unnamed source ---- now that's journalism at it's finest!

I agree. That's what it is, that's all it is. That's why you don't want to be a soldier when the Democrats are issuing the orders.

I watched a replay yesterday from the hearings held earlier in the week when 3 of the top Generals were being questioned by these Senators. As Boxer, Clinton, etc read quotes taken from the NY Times and Wash. Post, Sanchez flatly denied any of these accusations...under oath.

If he's lying, he's in big trouble...but his testimony was pretty believable as he and the other Generals were adamant that so many of these stories in the press are just plain wrong.

Heck, I thought England already admitted that no one ordered them to do these things, and that many of them were just passing the time away by being crude and obnoxious...while another admitted it was in retaliation for what was done to Lynch.

The recent high-level, short notice trip to Baghdad by Myers and Rumsfeld was not just a PR, pump up the troops visit. Flying together in the mobile command post, very odd. I think Sanchez's job is on the line and they wanted to confer with Abizaid about it out of country and away from their blabbing staffs in DC.

Sanchez dropped the ball in many ways and has also not done well in running the tactical operation in country. He does not get along with his Division commanders or with 1MEF/Marines.

Sanchez has consistently failed to stay on top of operational details that he could be getting briefed on but doesn't choose to. He wants to be too bureaucratic and political, a big picture guy and not hands on enough.

I agree, he's going to get relieved as soon as this settles down. His status was the driver for reorganizing the command into two parts, a diplomatic way of taking tactical control away from Sanchez.
