KERRY WANT A CRACKER? -- More Vexing Than A Dumb Parrot!
AMERICAN ENTERPRISE MAGAZINE ^ | MARNI SOUPCOFF

I once lived next in an apartment complex that was home to a chatty parrot whose comments were impossible to avoid due to the fact they were always delivered at high volume. The parrot would say things like, "You're stupid," and "I love you," and "You're a dummy." But the funny part was that the bird would usually say these things all at once, leaving the confused passerby to wonder how he'd managed to win the parrot's affections when the thing so obviously held his intelligence in such low esteem. One assumes that, being a bird, the parrot had little understanding of or interest in the content of what he was saying, but he always sounded equally insistent and earnest about each contradictory remark he made.

Every time I've read a John Kerry quote this past week, I've though of that parrot and his missed opportunities.

I wonder if the bird realized he was qualified to run for president? That he could blab his way through a campaign with no consistency or congruity whatsoever and still have a good shot at the highest office of the land? One has to believe he would have ditched his little perch and gotten himself booked on all the Sunday morning shows ("Tim Russert, you're stupid, I love you, you're a dummy."), if only he had known.

But he didn't, which left John Kerry to stand in as the prime contradiction-spouter in the 2004 election.......

Kerry is about as honest and consistent as Bill Clinton discussing not having sex with Monica "That Woman" Lewinsky!

Something has been nagging at me about Kerry's bizarre statements:
Someone who holds so many contradictory positions in reality holds no positions at all. He cannot govern like that. Even Clinton held at least some core beliefs (mainly that he was so self absorbed that whatever he did was OK - but at least he knew he was a ba$tard and defended himself) I get the impression that Kerry has only arrogance veneered over a framework of foundational insecurities. He always seeks approval, that's why he flip-flops so much.

A person like that will be a figurehead leader, nothing more. So, my question is this: If Kerry were to win in November, who would really be making the presidential level decisions? It won't be Kerry. Who would we really be electing?

>>>So, my question is this: If Kerry were to win in November, who would really be making the presidential level decisions?<<<

Astute question and one we should be putting in front of the Democrats every chance we get. They can't deny he is a flipflopper, so they will be forced to answer this question. I assume his cabinet and COS will be yes men to make him look in charge, so the question remains - whose running things?

My gut feel is it would be is current "hit team" - Teddy Kennedy and Al Gore!

As the owner of 13 parrots, including a brilliant African gray who says what he means and knows what he's talking about, I take extreme offense at these beautiful, honest and intelligent creatures being compared to John Kerry.

My birds demand an apology and reparations in the form of peanuts!

Kerry is a politician. He flip-flops on issues, seeks approval, and would do nearly anything to get elected. A specific man in a specific situation.

Now, let's disect politicians in general (with few exceptions). Members from the house and senate rarely run beacause their voting records will be used against them. I have interned in a congressional office and have seen pragmatic politicians in action. So why did the Democrats choose Kerry to run? He's just a scheming politician.

Politicians seek approval--they need to get elected. Some can be power hungry and love the lime light. They will say anything to get re-elected (or in Kerry's case to get elected for the first time). This is part of the game that many of them play.

I am not defending Kerry's actions. I am proud to say that my presidential choice (Mr. Bush) is not your average politician. He is clearly a good, dedicated man. He would do nearly anything for what he believes in (instead of just trying to get elected). Gooo GOP!!
