"Her younger son, Willie Martin, lives in Elba."
Other than Willie, are there any other surviving children of Civil War veterans?

I don't know, but that'd be an interesting bit of information.

The Wall St Journal had a page one story on this just last week. There are quite a few children of Civil War vets. Of course, "quite a few" is a relative term!

I heard on NPR (shoot me I know) the other day that there are around 85 children of Union soldiers and over 200 children of CSA soldiers surviving.

In the Sons of Confederate Veterans and United Daughters of the Confederacy, they are referred to as "Real Sons" and "Real Daughters." There are very few left, but there are some. I would have to contact the national headquarters for a better number. The Sons of Confederate Veterans' web site is at www.scv.org.

There was a front page article in one of last week's Wall Street Journal's on this. I believe there are around 84 Union children and about 204 Confederate children still alive.

Believe it or not, AFAIK one of my great aunts is still alive, and her father was a civil war veteran. He had a second family with a second wife after his first wife died. My grandmother, the youngest of this second family, was born when he was an old man. I, at 42, can say that my great grandfather was a civil war vet! Of course he died when my Grandmother was young.
