Partisan suspicions (Dims abortion whine)
THE STAR LEDGER ^ | 4/31/04 | THE AUDITOR

Newark Archbishop John Myers ruffled feathers recently when he said Catholic politicians who support abortion should not take Communion, a move that was seen as an attack on (New Jersey) Gov. James E. McGreevey .

Democrats saw a partisan edge, given that the same weight was not placed on capital punishment, the Iraq war or other church positions that might work against Republicans.

So there has been much buzz lately at word that Myers attended a St. Patrick's Day lunch in Washington as the guest of House Speaker Dennis Hastert, with President George W. Bush in attendance.

"He can have lunch with whomever he wants, but given the concern he may be doing this for political reasons, it's not the brightest thing to do," one top Democrat tells the Auditor. "It raises suspicions. And quite frankly, the involvement of Henry Amoroso has people talking, too."

Amaroso, the former finance chairman of the Bergen County GOP, is an attorney who advises the archbishop on health matters. He works as chief operating officer of Catholic Health and Human Services, which is sponsored by the diocese.

Amaroso considers the partisan suspicions "silly." A spokesman for Myers confirmed his attendance at the lunch in Washington but said Hastert is a childhood friend who grew up near Myers in Illinois and played football against him in high school.

He noted that Sen. Ted Kennedy was at the St. Patrick's Day lunch as well, sitting next to the archbishop.

Dims will never "get it."

MEMO TO DUMBOCRATS: Abortion is about the kiling if defenseless, voiceless unborn babies in secret in abortion chambers. There is an urgency to the abortion issue that does not accrue to the other issues mentioned.

The unborn do not have lawyers and the justice system providing unlimited defense mechanisms as in the case of criminals condemned ot capital punishment.

There's no Department of Defense, no generals, no Cabinet officers that are committed to their well-being on the killing fields.

Catholic teaching does not oppose capital punishment. This rag must not have received the memo.

Translation: The members in the Armed Forces doing the fighting in Iraq should be treated the same way as pro-abortion politicians...

Ummm....did anyone tell these Democrats that if they do not believe the Church teachings on matters of faith and morals they can join another Church?

Abortion is anathema...

Those cowardly pro-abort pols would turntail and run for the hills if confronted with anything like a real battle.

They want the serenity, redemption, and grace belonging to the church brings, but they won't put their money where their mouth is. They should admit they put politics first and that the lives of the unborn don't count in their closed political world.
