The world is big. Stuff is small. Aircraft wreckage from WWII is still being found - in the U.S. You also read fairly frequently about people being trapped in wrecked cars for days in a ditch off a busy highway.

"Propane is one of the elements that terrorists have been trained on, so we're very concerned about it," Patterson told a news conference.

A tanker was converted into a truck bomb for the Khobar Towers apartment bombing in Dharan, Saudi Arabia, nearly eight years ago, he said. The June 25, 1996, explosion killed 19 U.S. Air Force personnel and wounded 372 other people

Interesting. I was under the vague impression it was an AFNO bomb in a tanker. What was it, really?

Just occurred to me that a BOLO of this sort could pre-occupy/distract LEO enough for something else to slip by.

" its not real easy to hide 2 propane tanker trucks."

As long as they're wearing their seat belts, they'll be fine.

Listen, you put a block of C4 on the side of that tank. Drive it through the gates at a major sporting event, like a football or baseball game and touch it off.

If there are 70,000 people in that stadium there will be 70,000 dead people in about .02 seconds.

Sometimes a cigar is, as Freud said, just a cigar. This is the main show.

Not without an oxidizer. Wrong O2 to gas ratio while still in the tank.

or blown up, that is, in the conentrated form. I realize the C4 would free it from the tank, but woithout being dispersed to the proper ratio, not much kaboom.

From the size I'd guess about 2000-4000 gallons per truck? Also, not THAT easy to turn them into a bomb.

Easier than a Ryhder truck full of fertilizer. Besides a big fire, say in a high rise office building, could be just as good from a terrorists perspective.

I agree. It would actually be very unpredictable. But with the propane spilling and vaporizing all over they could use secondary detonations in hopes of catching some at the right ratio for an explosion.

They also stole oxygen and nitrous oxide cylinders.

On the other slow-loading thread, someone mentioned there was an RNC meeting this coming weekend in SA.

Look at the byline.

I suspect we'll find the empty trucks in a ditch outside Nuevo Laredo in a couple of days.

Indeed. Not so very much overhead cover around the San Antonio area, except in the river/creek bottoms. But you could hide the thing in an East Texas forrest (Davy Crockett or Sam Houston National Forests for instance) and it would be hell to find, even with military IR sensors once it cooled down. Hiding just the trailer would be easier still, and you could repaint the tractor or just take it to Mexico and sell it, or trade it for one not "hot".
