Seems even Howell Raines has realized Kerry is boring and pathetic.

Look to see more "buyer's remorse" in the future. I expected at some point the Dems will start blaming and attacking each other.

This guy is completely clueless. He thinks Carter lost because Reagan destroyed his reputation by hammering away at one or two ideas. Oh, I've got it--he was born AFTER the Carter Presidency. I must be getting old.

Two and a quarter centuries into its history as a nation, America has the most unfair tax system ever

Yeah. The average working man or woman doesn't see any of their own hard-won wages, essentially, until May 1st of any given calendar year (1/3 of everything they earn sluiced straightaway into governmental coffers, like it or not)... and, to the arrogant, privileged likes of a Howell Raines: that's "unfair." You're not paying ENOUGH.

G-d grant that men such as these never gain ultimate authority over our lives ever again.

Where has Howell been, JFKerry is a Viet Nam war hero, and he has "reenactment" films to prove it.

Now that bjclinton is going to help him, according to Bob Beckel on Fox this a.m., the "stud" is what JFKerry needs. Oh, then Bob Beckel corrected himself and said the "stallion" clinton would come to the rescue.

***As matters now stand, Kerry has assured the DLC, "I am not a redistributionist Democrat." That's actually a good start. Using that promise as disinformation, he must now figure out a creative way to become a redistributionist Democrat***

And that, my friends, is the whole story.

I sure hope Kerry takes the advice of Howell Raines, who is completely in touch with the prevailing mood in Greenwich Village and the Upper West Side, but hopelessly lost in most of the rest of America. Even by the standards of silver spoon liberals, this guy's condescension and contempt for the American people is extreme. And what's this crapola about Kerry being the first war hero candidate since JFK? What about Dole? What about Bush the first? I guess churning out garbage like this is what fired newspaper editors do these days.

Hmmmm, just lie to the American people huh Howell, just like you adviced old Jason Blair to do? Lies don't mean anything to you, do they? Just as long as you get what you want, it's OK to lie.

As Al From of the Democratic Leadership Council noted, Americans aren't antagonistic toward the rules that protect the rich because they think that in the great crap-shoot of economic life in America, they might wind up rich themselves

Maybe they understand that its not a crap-shoot.

... Republican party's mastery of what the pundits call "hammer-and-chisel politics" ...

Democrats use a meat cleaver, such as the ads they ran, trying to link Bush with the death of James Byrd or the recent "they have a plan and you are not part of it" billboards.

...although Kerry has put himself in a hole by modifying and rationalising his opposition to the Vietnam war.

Raines puts a good face on what will be a decided negative re Kerry's antiwar activities. Kerry met with the Vietnamese Communists in Paris while hostilities were still going on; he belonged to the radical VVAW, which plotted assassinations against our political leadership; and he condemned en masse all who participated as war criminals. Raines needs to recognize that Kerry is very unpopular among veterans. Kerry is not a war hero, as his fellow Swift Boat officers can attest. Add that to the fact that Kerry is rated the most liberal senator in the Senate and you have a disaster as a candidate.

...a ponderous, uncharismatic challenger with no clear message... John Kerry must find his voice or fade away

If, after being in the Senate 30 years, Kerry has no clear message and can't find his voice, then he never has had a message or voice. He is an empty-suited fake. No wonder he flipflops on so many issues; he has never taken a stand since his pre-Congressional, post-VietNam activities against that war.

There is an old saying: If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything. They sums up Kerry fairly accurately. He falls for anything on the side he thinks his intended audience wants.

In 30 years, Kerry has failed to discover a clear message or find his voice. That is not going to change in the next 4 months.

No wonder Kerry always has 'a plan' but can never give any details or specifics for the plan. The plan is to get elected by saying anything he thinks his audience wants to hear. Since that varies from group to group, 'the plan' can't be specific or detailed, or it might give his strategery away.
