CHICAGO (CBS.MW) -- Shares of Lion's Gate Entertainment rose Wednesday on word that the company will be a part of a "fellowship" formed to distribute "Fahrenheit 9/11," the latest documentary from director Michael Moore.
The film, which had been seeking a distributor since a nervous Walt Disney Co. gave it pass, will roll nationally with the help of the so-called Fellowship Adventure Group, a venture formed just for the purpose by Miramax chiefs Harvey and Bob Weinstein that also will include Lion's Gate and IFC Films.
"We are honored to handle [Moore's] latest film," said Lion's Gate chief executive Jon Feltheimer late Tuesday in a statement. "We are delighted to join with IFC to maximize the theatrical potential of `Fahrenheit 9/11', which promises to be one of this year's seminal cinematic events."
Lion's Gate (LGF: news, chart, profile) stock was up almost 2 percent to $6.71 in midday trading.
The movie, which explores everything from a U.S. Supreme Court decision halting the vote recount in Florida almost four years ago to civilian casualties in Iraq, should start hitting theaters on June 25.
Pay TV rights for "Fahrenheit 9/11" will be handled by Showtime, a unit of Viacom, which is a significant shareholder in the publisher of this report.
A puss filled ping!!!
Could someone in the know inform us as to how a movie can be rushed to theaters in a little over three weeks? Aren't theaters scheduled months in advance for screenings?
That figures.
Exactly the reason I posted this puss filled article!!! Thanks for amplifying the core of this bursting boil!!!
LOL, this is too funny. They are trying to replicate the buzz that surrounded POTC, but it's not working.
Whut tha heck issat thang on his putter? Does he really need a scope ta see his balls???
The stock is up TWO percent, that's what 12 or 13 cents. Definately deserves a headline on Marketwatch.
</sarcasm>
It's all part of the hype that CBS is generating for its parent company. And, of course, they hate George Bush.
