They Said It! (September 11th Commission Vice-Chair Lee H. Hamilton [D-IN])
Republican National Committee ^ | June 18, 2004

SEPTEMBER 11th COMMISSION VICE-CHAIR LEE H. HAMILTON (D-IN): "I must say I have trouble understanding the flap over this [Al Qaeda ties to Iraq]. The Vice-President is saying, I think, that there were connections between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein's government. We don't disagree with that, so it seems to me the sharp differences that the press has drawn -- the media has drawn are not that apparent to me." (Lee H. Hamilton As Quoted On Fox News' "Special Report," 6/17/04)

A local talk radio guy in the Dallas area- Greg Knapp, KLIF 570, played the quote from him...as well as the other commissioner who talked about the media misrepresenting what the commission actually said. He pointed out that their report shows that there were al qaeda - Iraq contacts.
And he pointed out that people have been claiming that Bush said something which he did not. Very tough audio for the main stream media gimps....it showed that the media flatout made stuff up...fla out lied.
www.klif.com the guy's name was Greg Knapp. And he mentioned something about a Case Closed link under his page that had a lot of this and other stuff.

O'Reilly actually slammed people like the NY Times tonight for lying and then he showed and obtained copy of a CIA memo that indicated intel having evidence of al qaeda - saddam contacts. He said the CIA doc. would be in full on his web page.....billoreilly.com? I guess that is his site. I am gonna look at it tonight.

RWR8189 - Keep up the great posts!!

I noticed that CBS news web site buried the Putin comments (intel that Iraq was planning attacks on US). Can you for a minute imagine what the media would be saying if Iraq did carry out attacks in the US and Bush had done nothing, then the Putin info came to light.

We all know Lee Hamilton is a member of the vast right wing conspiracy. He hid it for years in the dem party. The NY Times is as bad a CNN.

This is the same way the media distorted Bush's statement regarding British intelligence on Saddam's pursuit of uranium in Africa.

They conveniently dropped the British reference and substituted "Africa" with "Niger" so to draw a false connection to the single forged document the CIA obtained from the Italians.

******Alert******

I have uncovered what I think may be behind this twisted story. I read the 2 reports released by the Commission Wednesday and neither included the phrase "no credible evidence" as used in the AP report.

Fact: The 9-11 Commission released two staff reports on Wednesday June 16 (Staff Reports No. 15 and 16). Staff Report No. 16 states: "We have examined the allegation that Atta met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in Prague on April 9. Based on the evidence available — including investigation by Czech and U.S. authorities plus detainee reporting — we do not believe that such a meeting occurred."

Fact: On Thursday June 17, 2004, an Associated Press article ran with the headline "Panel finds no al-Qaida link to Iraq" The article included the following statement: "the commission investigating the 9/11 attacks reported Wednesday [June 16] that there was 'no credible evidence' that Saddam Hussein had ties with al-Qaida."

Fact: Searching all documents released by the commission to date, the only statement ever released by the commission that uses the phrase "no credible evidence" is a statement given by a witness testifying on July 9, 2003 in the Third Hearing. The witness stated: "There is no credible evidence of the Iraqi dictator Saddam or the Baghdad regime sponsoring Al Qaeda."

So you see, AP ran this story claiming the commission stated "no link" in their report released Wednesday, when in fact, the "no link" statement is pulled from an old witness statement. It is picked up by papers all over the US and reported as gospel.

Where is the outrage?

I just finished a letter to the editor of my local expressing my outrage and canceled my subscription.

I need to correct one statement of Fact I made above. Staff Report No. 15 released Wednesday does include the phrase "no credible evidence." However, in full context, it states: "We have no credible evidence that Iraq and Al Qaeda cooperated on attacks against the United States." This is still far different than saying there is no evidence linking Iraq and Al Qaeda.
