Bad ACTors
The Wall Street Journal ^ | June 28, 2004 | John Fund

If Dems want honest elections, why did a Soros-backed group hire criminals to get out the vote?

When the Associated Press last week turned up evidence that America Coming Together, an anti-Bush group funded by $5 million from financier George Soros, had hired dozens of felons to go door-to-door and register voters in Florida, Missouri and Ohio, the defensive fire from ACT was swift and predictable.

First, ACT claimed it hadn't employed violent felons. Then when the AP reported that ACT employees included people convicted of assault and sex offenses, the group admitted it might also have hired felons in 14 other battleground states. It also promised to fire anyone guilty of "violent or other serious offenses." In some cases it won't have to; four felons it hired in Missouri have already gone back to prison, including one for endangering the welfare of a minor.

That's one reason the Missouri Department of Corrections banned ACT from its list of potential employers for parolees in halfway houses. Noting that the felons would have to handle driver's license information and telephone numbers as part of the voter-registration process, the department concluded that "from a public safety standpoint, we didn't want offenders to be in a situation where they would be handling that information."

The Democrats have sunk to a new low. I didn't actually believe it was possible, but they have really taken the biscuit this time.

Don't worry they are headed lower than you can imagine. The GOP convention is going to be a real riot.

You mean, literally? As in call-out-the-National-Guard-riot? Aw they wouldn't, would they...

Hang on a minute. We're talking about Democrats here, not rational people. Of course they would... *shudder*

It doesn't sound good, but what does that mean, and what's the derivation of that phrase, if you would be so kind?

We can only hope. It will generate the same backlash it did in '68.

But do not look to the Bush administration or its Attorney General to address voter fraud.

I'm honestly not sure. It might even be something I made up. I've lived in that many places, picked up that many weird phrases, and made up still more, that I'm surprised anyone understands me at all.

At least on FR, I don't have to type with an Amuurican accent... ;-)

Douglas Adams who wrote many "Dr. Who" episodes and the successful 3+ book trilogy "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" used that expression often. I know he didn't invent it. I always thought "to take the biscuit" meant "if that doesn't beat all", but here is a better explanation;

I still contend that the real reason that they hired these thugs is for intimidation tactics. They're getting paid $8 to $12 an hour -- if the Bush economy is so bad, why can't this group find better representatives than felons?

American Muslims' have been recruiting their followers straight from our prisons for decades. It's no surprise their supporters in the Rat party use the same recruiting tactics and locations to hire stealth intimidators to go door-to-door to clog voter lists with deadwood.

The only surprise is that the Rat media called 'em on it.

It's going to be a real freak parade and it will and should turn off a lot of people to the agenda.

With many Democratic politicians being UNCONVICTED FELONS, it doesn't surprise me they would hire potential cellmates to help them with their campaigns.

The only surprise is that the Rat media called 'em on it.

I first noticed the story on Brit Hume's "Grapevine" segment last Thursday, IIRC. I think I read it as an AP story in the LA Times the following day.

The RNC first said something on June 23.
