In his column today, Robert Novak salutes the only man who could put Bush-bashing Ron Reagan in his place.
"Nobody knew how to respond in a time of national mourning. Nobody, that is, except William F. Buckley Jr.," Novak writes.Among the shots junior Reagan fired at the president: that his father never wore "his faith on his sleeve," that his "father did not know George W. Bush from Adam," that his "father was a man - that's the difference between him and Bush." And: "This is their war. If they can't stand on their own two feet, they're no Ronald Reagans."
Among the responses in a letter Buckley sent to the late president's son, according to Novak:
- The younger Reagan claimed "in an interview with the New York Times that he, as a self-professed atheist, admired the Buddhist teachings of 'mindfulness and loving kindness and compassion.' Buckley told him: 'You proceed in a single interview to profane/deride the faith of your parents, which is not very mindful.'"
- The boast that he did not vote for Bush: "Odd that you should permit this invasion of privacy whose only purpose is to remark the political infidelity of the son of Ronald Reagan."
- To Junior's claim that his father "worked hard to impress upon his children the value of kindness," Buckley noted, "If he did, he was manifestly unsuccessful."
Well, at least the angry and hateful former ballet dancer will fit right in at the Democrat convention.
To Junior's claim that his father "worked hard to impress upon his children the value of kindness," Buckley noted, "If he did, he was manifestly unsuccessful."God bless Bill Buckley : )
I'd like to kick him in the A$$ with my size 11R combat boots!
Where can Buckley's letter be seen in full, I wonders?
Dan
Like the Democratic Party itself, Ron Jr. is over 30 and still in teen rebellion mode. I'll keep the son of President Reagan in my prayers.
I remember the precise opposite, in fact.
Friggen phony.
Thanks for posting this. I've been livid ever since he announced his plan to speak to the DNC. He's a freak, a whacko, mentally ill, bad dancer...........send him back to the dog shows.
Little Ron is a twit.
Reagan's son and Berg's father should get together. Mr. Berg could adopt the fatherless jackass and spend quality time together lying about Bush.
I saw that commentary rack Bill Buckley
HEY Kattracks you know what Ron Prescott is nothing like his dear late father OH NOOOO
I tell you in Reagan family who more like his father with influence and class
MICHAEL remember he is adopt son of Ronnie with his first Lady Jane Wyman
As I say, our dear President Reagan would not have approved. I am sure that he is taking a break from riding in the real Rancho del Cielo, and waving a cosmic finger at the boy.

Ah. Put fortunately Patty has redeemed herself. And Maureen, bless her departed soul, was not untrue to her father either.
Regards, Ivan
I hope this rebuke silences the "ballerina", but I doubt it. I bet he's so mad he could spit.
thank god this is a democracy and not a monarchy!! imagine king ron jr...yeesh.
If anyone has the links to the Novak and/or Buckley pieces, it would be very appreciated.
Ron wants the world to know that he finds GW to be contemptible. He will demonstrate this to people who also found his father to be contemptible. His father would never have been invited to speak at the Democratic Convention, any more than would GW.
Every awful thing they say about GW, they also said about Reagan. And Ron, in many many ways over the years, has done what he could to distance himself from his father, who he transparently found to be an embarrassment.
GW is Reagan's real son. I don't know who Ron is.
We look for that fine day when we will see him again, all weariness gone, clear of mind, strong and sure and smiling again, and the sorrow of this parting gone forever. May God bless Ronald Reagan and the country he loved.

The term "B!tch slap" would be highly apropos here.
Buckley probably made the little sissy soil his silk panties!
