Candidate uses President's voice, Ignores RNC demand to 'cease and desist'

For Immediate Release – July 19, 2004

From the desk of Linda Shaw, RNC National Committeewoman:

Miner Ignores RNC Requests to 'Cease and Desist;' Hijacks President’s Voice

Richard Morgan also told to 'cease and desist'

RALEIGH On Friday, July 16, 2004, Representative David Miner was contacted by the Republican National Committee Counsel’s Office regarding the unauthorized use of President Bush's voice in an automated phone call. Miner was told to "immediately cease and desist from any further use of the President's voice."

Miner ignored the request and continues to use the President's voice in his automated calls to voters of the NC House District 36.

"Integrity is one of the most important things that the voters must weigh when deciding who to elect to public office," said Linda Shaw, RNC National Committeewoman from North Carolina. "David Miner is trying to intentionally deceive the voters of his district by leading them to believe that he has been endorsed by President George W. Bush when he has not."

"Truth and honesty are traits that the voters should expect from their elected leaders," added Shaw. "The Republican voters of NC House District 36 should be weary of any candidate who would say anything, or do anything, to be elected."

President Bush's voice was recorded some time ago for use in one of Bush's many recorded messages thanking his supporters. Miner took parts of the message and made it sound as though President Bush has endorsed him in his upcoming primary election against Nelson Dollar.

"President Bush has done so much to help the Republican Party," continued Shaw. "It is shameful that some individuals would use his name and his voice in an unauthorized and inappropriate manner. David should have more respect for the President."

"The Republican National Committee has also been in touch with Co-Speaker Richard Morgan, requesting that he also 'cease and desist' using former First Lady Barbara Bush's name in connection with his campaign. Morgan has been using an outdated quotation by Mrs. Bush which could create the impression that she and Former President George H. W. Bush have endorsed Morgan's campaign.

Shameful behavior. Miner (and Morgan) must be worried. Can Nelson Dollar be ahead going into tomorrow's NC Primary?

I would have to tell the RNC - "YOU pay for all the ads, then I'll care what you say!"

Some NC pings, such as Mike S. Adam's columns are rated "R".

That's a problem ... maybe I'll just do case-by-case. We can't read the newspaper for the same reason.

Nope. Yep. In that order.

Democrats owned this state for so long, the GOP leadership never learned to act like Republicans. They were so used to masquerading as Democrats in order to get elected, they couldn't break the mold when they finally started winning.

We have a Republican party but why aren't we stronger than before?

Bill Cobey, Patrick Ballentine, Richard Burr and some others are genuine Republicans but exactly what is the problem here??????????????? Do we need a new chairman of the GOP here in NC???????????? What do we need???????? We talk and talk but we don't seem to be able to put our finger on exactly what is wrong to fix whatever is wrong.

"We talk and talk but we don't seem to be able to put our finger on exactly what is wrong to fix whatever is wrong."

1) Principles. If the NC GOP candidates don't self-destruct, they murder each others' reputations before the primaries so badly the GP is left saying "Why vote for any of the scoundrels?"

2) Primaries. The way registered Republican voters are left with no chance to vote for many local offices leaves the GP to abandon the party. I know I was not abled to vote for Sheriff of Columbus county because there were no Republican challengers. I had no vote, no say.

Hey Step, I'm from Searcy but live in NC now and I have to say that, luckily, the RNC of NC is in much better shape than AR. Now not much better, but some.
