Don't know the history of the movement well enough to know when it started, but Western society is at least many decades into the egalitarianism that got us where we are now. There's so much pressure, worldwide, and now for mulitiple generations (the real clincher) to believe against all practical evidence that women and men are just interchangable units with slightly different plumbing. Western feminism has hopelessly clouded the issues to the extent that young people must be exceptionally strong willed to ever reach conclusions like the one we're discussing. I take the eternal perspective, ultimately; all civilizations fall for one reason or another. It's just frustrating to watch one crumble around you when you can point out some of the stressors so easily.

It takes a lot of faith to reject the world view of males and females. The bible lays it all out but most people are not willing to believe it. If most of what calls itself Christianity doesn't except the biblical differences in male and female roles, then we know where the rest of the world is going to be on that one.

When you've got some time, you might enjoy reading this rabbi's online book about men, women, gender, marriage, etc... It's well worth the time. As a Christian it fascinates me to read the ancient Jewish positions on men, women, and relationships. His message cofirms what anyone with eyes can see in their own relationships. Obviously, it's written without the perspective of Grace, and I personally skipped some whole sections of Talmudic discussion that I couldn't understand; but it's excellent reading and very relevant to this topic.
