No guns at new Wal-Mart(Update)

New Haven-WTNH, July 21, 2004 11:05 PM) _ A new Wal-Mart store that opened in New Haven will not be selling guns.

This comes after local officials took a stand against the store selling the firearms.

When the discount chain opened today in New Haven it did so without any of those weapons.

The new store is on Foxon Blvd. New Haven officials asked the company not to sell guns and the company complied.

Many customers are happy the new Wal-Mart will not sell guns.

Darlene Ross says,"Because guns are dangerous. I have young kids and I just don't like guns."

"I come from the country and I am used to guns but I think it is good though," says Janet Nabors, New Haven.

A store manager at Wal-mart tells News Channel 8 that they did get some complaints that the store does not sell guns, but that there are other Wal-Marts in the area that sell the firearms.

"It was an agreement between Wal-mart and the city of New Haven because of the ordinances they have being located next to a school in a residential area, so we were more willing to comply with their needs," says Scott Huddleston, Manager.

The new store is across the street from what will be a New Haven Public school.

The Wal-mart is on Foxon Blvd and replaces a KMart that shut down. When the KMart opened, it sold guns but stopped when residents protested.

What ELSE don't you like, perhaps we can ban them, too?

So what? Like the kids at the school could just walk over there & buy one?

Big deal. It's not like they are the only gun sellers in town.

Towns make deals with new stores and visa versa all the time. It happens way more than the average person realizes.

Because guns are dangerous.

So are knives, antifreeze, weed killer, machetes, and handsaws, but I don't hear you putting up a stink about those staying on the shelves.

" New Haven officials asked the company not to sell guns and the company complied."

I suspect "the company" is either run by girlie men or they are represented by lawyers that are worried about liability issues.

She doesn't want all the shoot-outs, murders, senseless celebratory firing into the air, duels, etc that occur in all the other Wal-Mart parking lots to take place in front of the school. I can see her point. </s>

There's a Wal Mart in Springfield, MA that doesn't sell guns either. Nor, I believe (but I'm not sure) does it sell knives.

This bit about local ordnances, etc is garbage. New Haven is like Springfield: overrun with illegals and with rampant crime. THAT'S why they don't sell guns there.

Funny isn't is how you can go to the next town over, which is much more stable and quiet, and pick up all the long arms you need at THAT Wal Mart?

And how many kids die each year because of balloons? Yet, I'll bet you buy them every year for your kid's birthday party and they're sold to EVERYONE...no restrictions!!

Oh, no! To where is the criminal element in New Haven going to have to travel, to obtain the tools of their trade, so they may rampage through the streets of New Haven?

They will have to resort to buying them on street corners and back alleys, or stealing them from legal owners. Is that any way to bring up your children?

Obviously, all children are criminals, to interpolate from what this Darlene Ross says. She wants to keep her children "safe", and since it is criminal to use guns unsafely, and children may be counted on to use them in an unsafe manner, therefore children are criminals.

That is about as good a sort of logic as she was using.

"I just don't like people having the right to own guns."

That's how it should've read. That's what she was really thinking.

I don't know about you, but every time I buy a new gun at Wal-Mart, I get so excited I load up and blast a few rounds in the parking lot.

My local Wal-Mart has a good selection of reloading supplies and sells Shotgun News. We don't usually lock the doors to our cars or houses either. Let the urban fools disarm themselves.

I don't like cucumbers, can I ban them from being sold at my local grocery store? How about celery? Beets?

No? Why not?

But don't you know how many children are killed by assault vegetables every year? They're the choice weapon of criminal parents!!!

Banning her kids would be cruel: just limit her to one. She'll have to choose which to keep...the other: MEDICAL EXPERIMENTS>>>for the LOT of 'em!

correct me if I'm wrong, but don't more people die from car accidents than by a gun in this nation?

Hope they don't put a car dealership next to the school...
Idiots!

The Branford Wal Mart, which is only 10 minutes away, does sell guns. You have to be careful, because you have to drive through a really bad secion of town, where the drug dealers in the public housing projects will shoot you just for being a whitey (supposing you are.)

I drive a white ford crown victoria which looks a lot like a narc car, so i avoid the area.
