Virginia gets federal grant to support migrant education

RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia's Department of Education received federal funding Monday to help teach migrant workers' children, whose education often is disrupted when their parents move from state to state for work.   Deputy Secretary of Education Eugene Hickok said the $241,314 grant will fund programs to improve mathematics skills for migrant children.

The funding was announced at a news conference attended by more than 30 children of migrant workers originally from Mexico who are attending summer school in Colonial Beach. Hickok said that during a typical year, some students live in several states and must switch schools.

Virginia's funding is part of a two-year, $1.3 million grant to eight states that will work together to provide math education for students and professional development for teachers.

"We want to make sure that students become proficient in math as soon as possible," said Hickok, who cited the federal No Child Left Behind law, which holds schools accountable for each student's academic progress in reading and math. The law provides flexibility in the reading component, he said.

The rich liberals SCREAMED about the danger of "day-laborers employment center". At least they did till someone pointed out that this is EXACTLY what they were pushing for, just elsewhere.

See, as long as the elite don't have to actually DEAL with their stupidity they will continue to expand upon it.

They are always "undocumented hardworking goodhearted laborers" until they have to be dealt with then they are "dirty violently aggressive criminals.

As far as I'm concerned, when the s*it hits the fan, the elites are on their own. Let's see how well your "tolerance " and "compassion" serves you when someone is breaking into your home looking for your women and money.

I haven't been over near Shirlington in a long while, but some time ago was looking for an auto mechanic over there, right off Four Mile Run.

Well I come around the corner and there at the taco stand (a van on wheels, parked right in the median) are about 50 "migrant workers" milling around, on the median, in the street, on both sidewalks. Everywhere and a real traffic hazard. They seemed in no hurry to move for oncoming auto traffic.

I think that's why they wanted WETA/PBS to provide a safer "day-laborers employment center", just as a matter of keeping them from being run over.

So our tax money isn't only being used to educate illegal aliens (that computer literacy's really going to come in handy), part of it is used to teach them how to further tap into our health care system. That's just...extra special.
