That's a good point, compensatory damages are a measure of actual loss. By asking for only one dollar, you would think they suffered no loss at all and the dollar is little more than symbolic. Why even bother with it?

Why wouldn't exemplary damages lie in this case? The paper was clearly misrepresented.
