Pakistan Says Photos of Heathrow Airport and Other Sites Found on Terror Suspects'

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistani authorities gave British authorities images of London's Heathrow Airport and other sites that were found on computers belinging to two arrested al-Qaida fugitives, intelligence officials said Thursday.

It was not clear if the information played a role in the Tuesday arrests of 13 people in Britain. One was released and the rest were being questioned.

Maps, photographs and other details of possible targets in the United States and Britain were found in computers belonging to Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani - a Tanzanian indicted for his role in the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in East Africa - and a Pakistani computer expert identified as Mohammed Naeem Noor Khan, said the officials, who both spoke on condition of anonymity.

A Lahore-based intelligence official involved in the investigation following the July 13 arrest of Khan said his computer contained photographs of Heathrow airport, as well as pictures of underpasses that run underneath several buildings in London.

He said, however, that he was unaware of any information from Khan that led directly to the arrests Tuesday of 12 suspected terrorists in and around London.

The other official said information from Khan and Ghailani had also been shared with the United Arab Emirates, the country through which several al-Qaida men are believed to have passed - including two South Africans arrested on July 25 along with Ghailani. He also was not aware of a link between the information and the British arrests.

Those are probably 3-year-old pictures and a dossier of 3-year-old intelligence of Heathrow Airport. That's yesterday's news.

I question the timing of the release of this old intelligence. It MUST be political.

There's a certain smart gentleman who recently mentioned that armed forces often gather intelligence when they occupy terrorist hot spots, and that acting in a serious way to engage terror supporters can inspire other nations to do the same. How true. This is part of the way you gather intel on your enemies. We are winning hearts and minds. We are diminishing the 'all powerful' aura that Islamo-facists have been enjoying for so long.
