Supposedly the colors of the robes worn by the citizens to 'protect' them from the monsters are referring to homeland security etc.

Likewise. I don't recall anything at all in the movie that was partisan.

Not a big fan of M. Night in general except for 'Unbreakable' with Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson, a pretty good film.

Some consider this a "Bush bashing" film because of the "twist" (I will post the twist in the next post in case you don't want the film ruined)

Actually....the monster is better looking than Kerry. I saw the movie and thought it was pretty good.

The twist:

The "Village" is actually a modern day commune started by a group of people disaffected with modern society.

In order to keep their children from leaving the commune, and hold onto their power, the Village leaders manufactured "monsters" in the woods. Some have speculated that this is a metaphor for Bush and the war on terror.

BS. Pure and simple.

What do mustard color robes have to do with anything? This is plain stupid.

What's funny: A republican friend of mine loved the movie because she saw it as bashing hippies.

I liked that too and Signs had a good message in it.

The premise looks so stupid, William Hurt sitting around talking like an Amish dude..I think I will wait for the dollar theatre for that one and see Open Water with the sharks instead!

How can you POSSIBLY equate that with President Bush? The commune is at least 20 years old anyway, maybe more.

This is lame. This is pathetic. The only "disaffection" was actually about personal experiences with violent crime.

So we have a thread based on someone's speculation.

I speculate that it's really a metaphor for Kerry's Vietnam experience. Did you know he was in Vietnam?

Signs was paced awfully slow (but the message was good), it is interesting to note that M. Night has said that he is interested in bringing back Bruce Willis for a sequel to the 'Unbreakable' pseudo/real life comic book series.
