The Albanian felon Imer Majani was gunned down early today in a skirmish with Macedonian police, police sources said.

The gunfire took place in a deserted house downtown Debar, where Majani was in hiding, Makfax news agency said.

Following the information on Majani's whereabouts, the police sealed the house and urged him to surrender. He opened fire on police officers and hurled hand bombs. A few policemen had been reportedly injured in the gunfire, police sources said.

The police were searching after Majani over the past few months due to criminal activities on the territory of Macedonia. The recent attempt by the police to arrest Majani turned futile as he managed to escape. He injured a police officer during the arrest operation.
