Meet the Press ^ | August 22, 2004 | Meet the Press

[Excerpt from full transcript. Russert is speaking with Tad Devine, Senior Adviser, Kerry-Edwards '04. -- ajf]

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5772535/

MR. RUSSERT: He didn't take office until January '69. Does Senator Kerry stand by that statement that on Christmas Eve of '68 he was physically in Cambodia?

MR. DEVINE: Right. Well, his memory, Tim, is being there, around there. And I'll tell you what happened on December 25th...

MR. RUSSERT: No--being there or around there?

MR. DEVINE: No, being right at the Cambodian border, over the Cambodian border. That's what he remembers. That's his clear memory. Now, Tim...

[end excerpt]

So according to Devine, Kerry remembers being "over the Cambodian border" on Christmas Eve of '68. It is Kerry's "clear memory" according to Devine.

Tim, I distinctly remember crossing into Cambodia on 24 December 1968 for the specific purpose of picking out a Christmas Tree for the boat and transporting 2 CIA operatives to a meeting with the Tooth Fairy. When we saw Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny across a rice paddy I had my gunner open up on him with the .50. We received return fire from 3 monkeys armed with banana launchers, so we beached the boat and chased down Elmer and the monkeys with the inflatable CIA gunship that G. Gordon Liddy was piloting. These memories are seared in me like that cup of Wendy's Chili is seared in my bowels.

Yeah O'Neill that's who musta been talking. I wasn't quite sure but I did think he had said 100-200k per day which blew me away. That is ALOT of people contributing.

"The story keeps changing, but the Swift Boat Veterans story has never change, but they are the liars."

That's the Clinton Defense tactic.

The Swift Boat Veterans are liars because Bush served in the National Guard.

So did his buddies carry him over the border & drop him, or what?

Methinks either John Kerry has two-three hidden personalities, or he was in Cambodia in a previous life. ;)

From the USS Gridley "Kerry page"

Some of these points may be perceived as picky, but they seem to show a deliberate effort in his writings of the time to build a mystique for a future political career showing him as a great leader, father confessor to the ship and astute analyst of political and military happenings.
That is not to say that Kerry was not a good officer. He was and to my recollection was well liked. Did he stalk the passageways showing his future presidential timber? Absolutely not. A reporter from the Chicago Tribune actually asked me that. When I told him that he was just another goofy Ensign, he was horrified and did not use that quote.

There is also alot more talk, from Dems as well, on why the focus on Vietnam, why not on issues of today. And they cannot say anything but that Kerry is the one who created, and has maintained, that focus. People are getting tired of hearing about Vietnam, and Kerry is imploding himself by not changing the topic.

"O'Neill probably knows that Kerry can't resist combatting him again."

I disagree with you. If Kerry was so willing to combat O'Neill, why is he picking his fight with Bush? He's scared to death of O'Neill. O'Neill cleaned his clocks on Dick Cavett's show and he can't take the chance of having it happen again.

Kerry is taking on Bush because that's what the handlers are telling him to do. Kerry listens to his advisors everytime. It's good strategy, don't take on O'Neill, don't mention him. Otherwise, it's Kerry vs. O'Neill, with Kerry looking less than presidential (less than Senatorial, for that matter) and Bush above the fray.

It's got to be killing Kerry, though. I think he wants to fight O'Neill. He still sees O'Neill as a Nixon shill, I'm sure.

Kerry has no honest reply to O'Neill, so he turns to Bush standing there innocently and shoots him in the back. But aha! Bush is wearing the Kevlar vest he made sure was passed out to all military, even tho Kerry voted against it ,so Kerry is left standing there pointing a still smoking gun at the President, and the unanswered question is still hanging in the air,.... "Sign the SF180's, and it will all be overrrrrrrrrrrrr".......

" I think it is 10 now......but wait Douglas Brinkley is about to give us number 11."

Actually, Kerry rode into Cambodia wearing special camo bike shorts and his magic hat.

Regardless. If he was in, under, over or around Cambodia on Christmas 1968, Nixon didn't send him there. That was always the point of this tale.

But Nixon did! I heard a Kerry Koolaider tell me how the President-elect was flown secretly to Nam in an SR-71 to personally order the young F'er into Cambodia on a mission that was conducted under super-secret double-probation.

"ClownKerry was no where near Cambodia that Christmas and he knows it. Tim Russert does, too."

Kerry's Cambodia stories, revised daily based on his latest fantasy, have turned into a comedy. The man is nuts. He needs professional help. We're in big trouble if he somehow wins the election.

Here’s a Letter to the Editor I just sent to our local rag. Feel free to copy and send to yours as well. Seems timely.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Below is a Letter to the Editor on which I would appreciate your consideration. Please call me if you have questions concerning this submission. Thank you for your consideration.

Also, should you elect to print this letter, please use my email address with my name so anyone that would like to comment may via email.

=======

Kerry Can’t Stand the Heat

Wasn't it John Kerry who recently said "Bring it on" if anyone wanted to scrutinize his often repeated exploits during and after the Vietnam War? That brings to mind a schoolboy picking a fight in a school yard and hoping the target doesn’t take him up on it.

Now, 254 of his former Swift Boat crewmates who have signed affidavits and are appearing in Television ads against him took him up on his call out. Former POWs are speaking out stating the congressional testimony John Kerry gave was fodder for the Vietnamese as they were tortured. They took Sen. Kerry up on his attempted intimidation.

Now Mr. Kerry would like them to back off. Using the same analogy he is begging for someone, anyone to make them stop. However, Kerry's actions during and upon his return from Vietnam should not be beyond reproach. His anti-war actions and allegations against veterans should not be shielded from scrutiny.

Instead of taking the “positive approach” that he said he would, Kerry (as most liberals) sees all manner of conspiracies in the opposition. President Bush on the other hand has endured a year of daily lambasting by Kerry surrogates and a willing media partner. I don’t recall President Bush once asking someone, anyone to pull them off.

As a veteran, which type of individual do I want in my foxhole?

=======

Thank you for your consideration. We enjoy and rely on your paper!

Respectfully yours,
Me

Right. He's not lying, it's False Memory Syndrome!

Yeah, yeah that's the ticket--trauma of war affected his memory.

Knowing the eeevil Nixon had been elected, he just projected himself forward, anticipating what terrible crimes to come Nixon had in mind for him.
