MUNCIE, Ind. Flags aren't allowed to be flown any longer at a city-run campground at Muncie -- including the U-S flag.
W-I-P-D-T-V in Muncie reports that police today passed out notices at Prairie Creek Reservoir campground saying that all flags must come down.
The U-S flag wasn't included in the city's original ban when it was imposed earlier this year. The city had banned Confederate flags and all others except U-S and P-O-W flags. The Indiana Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit against Muncie Mayor Dan Canan over the ban.
Friday, Canan broadened the ban to include all flags. He says he took the step to strengthen the city's legal position.
Some of the campers say they won't take their flags down.

I think the Indiana legislature should pass a law that preempts local jurisdictions on this issue.
So, did this mayor run on the Communist ticket or what?
What!
Just wait until the U.N. finds out about this!
U.N. Troops to enforce U.N. Parks Rules in the U.K.A.
/sarcasm
This has happened many times. Laws designed to eliminate the display of Confederate flags have been later used to ban the US flag. Many enemies of the Confederate flag are really enemies of the US flag.
Uhm..lets see..banning the flag of the country you are in and a citizen of. Them's huntin' words.
Actually, I believe he is a Republican.
This guy deserves a FReeping.
Seems from a quick google search that you're correct.
No law shall be passed, restraining the free interchange of thought and opinion, or restricting the right to speak, write, or print, freely, on any subject whatever...
How much more clear could it be? (Under Indiana law, Mayors have no authority to make laws. Any cop who arrests someone for violating an order of a mayor had better first make sure the house is titled in his wife's name)
Ban all speech. Nothing but mischief anyway.
While we're at it, I need to vent about a pet peeve. I am so sick and tired of people getting caught up in what they think is patriotic fervor by hanging flags all over the place and leaving them to fall apart in the rain, unlit at night, etc. etc. Cripes, these people obviously never were in the military or even the Boy Scouts. If you're not going to honor the flag with the respect it deserve, then don't put it up in the first place, you morons. I'd rather see fewer flags but see them cared for properly than all this stupid hanging from overpasses and seventeen flags in your front lawn, for God's sake. I'm tired of seeing all these faded, tattered flags. Do it right or don't bother.

There ought to be a provision for the legislature to impeach and remove local elected officials who violate their oaths of office and violate the laws or consititution of the United States or the particular state. As I recall local elected officials take an oath of office that includes a provision to uphold the state and US constitutions. Such a provision should also be applied to local mayors who sanction "gay marriages" in violation of state law. The states are unitary governments. City governments ultimately receive all their authority under state law unlike the federal constitution's relationship to the states.
Ok my memory is failing me. I remember a picture from school in the text books (pre-PC times) of a Confederate Officer on horse back riding through a town and an old Gray haired lady flying the Union Flag. The caption was of her supposedly saying "Harm this old gray head if you must but touch not the Flag of our Nation!"
Are there any other pre-PC types out there that remember this? Did I remember it correctly? Anyone still got a picture of that? If they do maybe we ought to send that image as a part of the Freep to Muncie, what do you think?
OOOOOoooo! The New UN emblem.
I would put up the tallest pole and fly the US Flag and dare him to take it down..
The Mayor
PC will be the ruin of this country.....
Friggin' Muncie. I went to BSU there, and I never did like that town.
