JOHN Kerry was certainly not a draft dodger, but he was against the Vietnam War before he enlisted in the Navy. According to a story in the Harvard Crimson, which covered Kerry's run for a Boston congressional seat in 1970, Kerry "urged the U.S. to withdraw from Vietnam" in his Yale commencement speech in 1966. "When he approached his draft board for permission to study for a year in Paris, the draft boad refused and Kerry decided to enlist," the Crimson stated.

John Kerry's tombstone will read...........
"Here Rests the Body of John Kerry, The Only Position in His Entire Life That Can Be Confirmed"
He was anti-war protester before he was a war hero. He was a war hero before he was anti-war protester. Sure.. I get it now.
It's called loosing your deferment.
More comonly known as the draft.
Stalling for time, then he joins the Navy instead of Army infantry? I do believe John "RAMBO" Kerry didn't want to see any fighting.
**Please no reply's from Navy guys. You know what I mean.
He actually joined the "Navy Reserve". Not the Navy.
He was a war hero??? Gee I sure dont think that description fits John Kin Kerry.....Rice hero maybe
I'm glad the Post published this, but this has been common knowledge for a long time.
Kerry joined the reserve? Loosing his deferment and joining the reserve kind of smacks in the face of his accusations on Bush for being in the National Guard.
Only problem is that Bush as a F101 pilot in the Guard was potential vietnam fodder, and had to invest over 2 years of commitment in exchange for all the investment and training that he was getting as a pilot.
Kerry, on the other hand, took the low road and tried to make the most of it with his super-8 to be both war hero and anti-war hero. What a putz.
