Vets' end run irks traditional media: Bush-loathing press frustrated
Rocky Mountain News ^ | August 28, 2004 | Dave Kopel

Posted on 08/28/2004 1:12:55 PM PDT by Cableguy

[excerpts] Early this week, a Kerry campaign spokesman admitted - as the Swift Vets had charged - that Kerry's first Purple Heart might have been the result of an accidentally self-inflicted injury on Dec. 2, 1968, rather than as a result of "intense combat" as Kerry's Web site has claimed. (As reported by columnist Bob Novak late this week, retired Rear Adm. William L. Schachte Jr. said that he was on Kerry's boat that day, and that "Kerry nicked himself with a M-79" grenade launcher.) The campaign's admission was reported by Fox News and The Washington Times, while most of the traditional media pretended that nothing had happened.

[snip] The Swift Vets have been proven right on some incidents, and cannot prove their case on others. The avalanche of traditional media articles denouncing the Swift Vets as a pure smear is itself a smear, as the traditional media flails in rage at the loss of its ability to control public discourse.

Who do you believe, what I/we tell you, or your own lying eyes? Just to quote the Kerry/Major Media cabal.

Reeeeeally? Hm, I wonder if Chris "Chrissy" Matthews would be interested in apologizing to Michelle Malkin on air.

I'll e-mail him and aks him.

Interesting statement.

The so-called "campaign finance reform" was a mistake.

THAT is what the press should report but Noooo . . .

The real John Kerry - whoever that is - should crawl into a hole for shame of the glory he steals from those who really gave for it.

The dog that didn't bark in Kerry's Cambodia stories (whether running guns or CIA agents into Cambodia) is why didn't he mention these illegal incursions into Cambodia as part of his litany of American war crimes while protesting the war. From what I can tell, he only starts talking about Cambodia in 1979, after the release of the movie Apocalypse Now, about a fictional agents excersion into Cambodia by boat.

That means that Kerry earned, at most, two Purple Hearts, and he owes our nation eight months in a combat zone.

Maybe not but instead of bolstering their Golden Boy, TM the media's been obliged to spend the last week of August trashing the Swifties. They're not happy campers having their gatekeeper status overturned.

I agree, and I think we should give him an unarmored humvee to drive around Fallujah.

However, from what I'm reading, there's no way that PH #3 is valid. The medical record I saw said that Kerry's arm was bruised on PCF-94 during the event where PCF-3 was blown up by a mine. He accidentally fragged himself again earlier that day and got rice embedded in his buttocks. A simple bruise does not qualify for a PH, even if the enemy is shooting at you, as a simple bruise does not need to be attended to by a medical officer. Self-inflicted rice in the butt, being a negligent (and stupid) action, also does not qualify for a PH.

That sums it up nicely.
George W. Bush will win reelection by a margin of at least ten per cent.

One thing that was new to me was how much leftist Alexander Cockburn hates Kerry (his article is mentioned in the story). You should check out his stuff on counterpunch.org, particularly the Zombies for Kerry article.
