On Politics and Religion And How We Got Here.
Politics and religion.those two big bugbears. How in the world do we ever get to the opinions that we get to? Exactly how do we end up defining our stance when it comes to these two age-old conundrums? I am sure that men with much more information, insight and intelligence have tried, without success, to answer these same questions. Why should I add my feeble efforts? I know, in my heart, that my words will have no affect on you. Yet for some unknown, inexplicable reason, I feel compelled to say something. In spite of the caveat that keeps resounding in my head, and this is almost axiomatic: Never, in my 59 years have I ever seen anyone, presented with even the most monumental amount of data, suddenly change their mind about any one of these issues. There are no "eurekas" when it comes to these two subjects. People can and do change, but it is a long slow arduous process. And so, it is with full knowledge that I will have little affect on your belief systems re these two subjects that I will proceed.
Do remember I plead, to pity the fool that rails against the wind. Yet, are we all not, after all, Don Quiotes in our hearts.ever searching out the windmills of our minds?
FACT: On Wednesday, August 25, 2004 the Albuquerque Journal wrote an article that states the Swift Boats Veterans For Truth belong to a 527 political group. 527 groups are groups that can accept unlimited political contributions and use them to produce political ads.
FACT: On Wednesday, August 25, 2004 the Albuquerque Journal wrote numerous articles that state the 527 tax code should be abolished. One of the main individuals pushing for change, citing lies and misuse by these groups, was Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
FACT: On Thursday, August 26, 2004 the Albuquerque Journal wrote an article that states that President Bush's nation campaign legal counsel, Benjamin Ginsberg, resigned after admitting that he has been advising the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth on their attacks on John Kerry.
FACT: On Thursday, August 26, 2004 the Albuquerque Journal wrote an article that states the chief critic of Kerry's service record, John O'Neill, lied in 1971 when he told then president Richard Nixon (I knew those secret Whitehouse tapes would come in handy) that he was in Cambodia. O'Neill now admits that he was not.
FACT: On Thursday, August 26,2004 the Albuquerque Journal wrote a front-page article under the headlines " Swift Boat Account Flawed".
FACT: On Thursday, August 26,2004 the Albuquerque Journal wrote an article that states "Navy Report Supports Kerry's Version".
Can we conclude from the above that The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are actually not a veterans group nor a group for the truth, but a political group working with the knowledge advise and consent of the President of the United States: George Bush. Theirs is not a fight for truth or justice for veterans, it is a shamelessly political one. May they rot in hell for doing such a disservice to the true veterans of our country in the name of politics.
The fiasco with the Swift Boats is just the symptoms of the disease I call George Bush. I can find so many more reasons not to vote for him. I will paraphrasing and steal from many sources to compound the list below giving my reasons for my vote against George Bush.
--He has managed to totally divide a country that was united by the vicious and cowardly attacks on our country on Sept. 11.
--He has alienated us from the rest of the world. On Sept. 12 the headline in Le Monde was "We are all Americans now". That same feeling is no longer held by most of the world.
--He has diminished our military by a mismanaged war, and has aided in the decline of American credibility as an honest peace broker and force for peace in the rest of the world.
--He has surrounded himself with other incompetents, many of whom have a set religious agenda and find no fault in mixing religion with politics.
--He has weakened the constitution with his so call war on terrorism. He has tried to make us believe that civil liberties, those same liberties that truly brave Americans have fought and died for, are actually the enemies of patriotism and freedom.
--He would, additionally, have us further amend the constitution to perpetuate his religious agenda.
--He has put stumbling blocks in the path of scientific progress. What part of the constitution says that the proper role of government is to hinder medical research in the name of religion?
--He has misused his power to further the role of government in education
While I consider all of the above as sufficient reasons to vote against George Bush they are still not, in my opinion, the most important ones. Let me end with just one more fact and the most important reasons that I will not be voting for Bush.
FACT: On Saturday, August 28,2004 the Albuquerque Journal wrote an article on Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan's warning of a looming crisis in Social Security. This crisis is a direct result of the current fiscal deficit. In a speech in Wyoming Greenspan said that the government "cannot deliver on its benefit promises even under the most optimistic economic assumptions on growth and productivity". He urged congress to quickly trim Social Security and Medicare benefits for the baby boom generation.
This leads to my final, and to me the most important, reasons to vote against George Bush.
--He masquerades as a champion of smaller government but has greatly increased the size and role of government. Ideological conservatism, it turns out, costs us as much or more than ideological liberalism. The difference is where we spend the money. One would spend money on the military and the rich, the other on the redistribution of wealth.
--He is leaving a national debt that will haunt us, our children and our children's children. His agenda is not so much " no child left behind" as it is "no child left out of debt".
I really don't care so much for me. I never gave, and still don't give, a ---- about politics. I'm a survivor; I'll make it either way. Besides, my race is almost run. But when you start messing with my grandchildren's future that's another matter.
I honestly don't know if Kerry will be any better. But I do know that Bush has been tried and found wanting. His blundering and bungling has left us with a national legacy of debt for us and future generations.for this he has to go.
Does anyone feel up to rebutting this point by point?
This guy knows that I'm not a great debater on paper. Put him here in the same room with me and I'd put him under the table whining like Skerry. He won't talk politics with me in person. I'm the only one in my family who can shut him up.
He's a typical liberal Dimocrat and I get these late-night hit and run emails regularly and I usually just delete them but tonight it infuriated me.
Why do you bother with this guy? He's on the wrong side of history and not worth getting worked up over. FReegards.
This one will take awhile. But it can easily be defended.
Let me guess. He read this in the Albuquerque Journal.
He admitted no such thing.
Wrong again.
I am weary and can only deal with #1: Our President did what he said he was going to to, unfortunately the partisan democrats in both the house and senate chose to imperil this nation not by supporting our president and our now war on terrorisim but rather attempt to derail our president's efforts in a lame attempt to regain political power rather than attain homeland and world security.......
That has never failed for me vs. 'Rats.
'nuff said.
OUTLOOK EXPRESS---->MESSAGE---->BLOCK SENDER
I agree that this garbage isn't worth the time of day.
You can start by telling him that because a newspaper printed it, doesn't make it a fact. The only fact is that it was printed. Additionally the language of these statements is designed to illicit certain conclusions, which are not necessarily true. This whole letter is an exercise in false arguments. The bit about the lawyer is a perfect example. He resigned because he thought it would "look better", not because he "admitted" (word confers guilt) to the work. The work is perfectly legal and there are 2 or 3 lawyers doing the same thing between the Kerry campaign and Democrat 527s.
>>--He is leaving a national debt that will haunt us, our children and our children's children. His agenda is not so much " no child left behind" as it is "no child left out of debt".<<
When my parents bought their house in 1961, the 180.00 housepayment almost broke them monthly. When I inherited the house in 1989, rents were nearly 400.00 a month and that same 180.00 was a pitance out of my pocket. The national debt will be the same.
Also, that national debt is a projection. Tax breaks cause national income because more is invested in businesses and buying more, making more jobs.
Does that help any?
Tell him, the reason John Kerry had to give the hampster mouth to mouth was because he tried to do a Richard Gere and almost suffocated it.
LOL there you go
:-)
End by saying, "So, you're going to vote for the baby killer?"
