GOP platform pushes amnesty
NJ.com ^ | 8/29/04 | Paul Mulshine

If there are any deluded souls out there who still believe George W. Bush is a conservative, I invite them to examine the 2004 Republican Party platform on the issue of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Bush is for it. That makes him a liberal. Worse, he proclaims that the amnesty is not an amnesty. So he is not only a liberal, but a liar as well.

I noticed that too (especially the part about breaking up the INS), but it's being billed as this years. If you can find something more current, please ping me.

Two young friends from California, Berkley/Oakland liberal types, just recently said the same thing. I was shocked. A couple of years ago they felt that the illegals should be given a chance. They've changed their minds - big time.

Tom Tancredo in 2008? The wet dream of the "I wish to be ruled by a Powerless Backstabbing Back Bencher promoted to Benevolent Dictator" set. Let's add Tom McClintock and Ron Paul to the wish list.

When are you going to be a man and tell us who you are a retread of? Within your first week here, you trashed kristinn and the FR DC Chapter, and now you're shilling for Specter and (R)nold. Quite frankly, you're not conservative and stick out like a sore thumb.

Do you have a link for official platform info? I don't have the time to read this entire thread to see if someone posted a link. Would like to check out both platforms -- to compare and send to friends. I don't think most people ever look at the core values of the two parties. And it's my belief that most people would be mortified to see how the 'RAT platform actually goes against much of what they believe.

That said, this is one of the few areas about which I strongly disagree with the President. Most of my friends feel the same way. One friend, who has been a conservative longer than I've been alive, said she's going to have to hold her nose this election and vote straight Republican, which probably says more about Congress than it does about GW, but nevertheless. I suspect a lot of conservatives are feeling the same way.

On Sept 10, 2001, I wrote the President an email detailing why I was against yet another amnesty. The next day I noticed the amnesty program took a back seat to the horror of the day. Too bad it's coming back to the forefront.

I'll vote for Bush, but with a few strong reservations -- especially this issue, which I consider pandering.

The other issues are tort reform, educational vouchers, and conservatives judges.

Thanks if you can get me the link to platforms and may God bless America.

If this were only true.............

It is true. Since 9-11 the feds have done a better job of controlling our borders. The border patrol has been beefed up and illegals are being rounded up in greater numbers. Is more improvement required? You betcha. I'd like to see the border patrol enlarged and given even more funding to stop illegal border crossings. The feds need to enforce the laws that exist to day and hold employers accountable for hiring illegals. I also believe the feds need to stop illegals from gaining access to the US welfare system and draining taxpayer funds. Finally, while I opposed it before, I think the time might be right for the feds to seriously consider building a security fence that keeps the vasy majority of illegal immigrants out of the USA. And of course, no amnesty!

"Sorry, I don't follow polls."

Then you shouldn't claim them. I asked you for a poll because *you* made a claim. You claimed that the breakdown of 35% left-of-center Americans, 34% right-of-center Americans, and 31% middle-road Americans didn't apply to the issue of immigration.

Now you admit that you have no such evidence. Clearly this is an area in which you should refrain from comment (on stats at least) then.

as for the next 2 months, it is all a scheme and a charade. It is all about getting elected. Kerry plays the game, now Bush is playing the game back and no one seems to follow him.

Maybe he is too far ahead of a lot of people on here...

This is a non sequitor ... involvement in Iraq and illegal immigration are separate issues.

We've had illegal immigration for decades now, and
it will be an issue whether we win the war or terror or not.
There are 130 million jobs in America, all but a few million of them filled by legal American citizens and legal immigrants.

Thus ... "any jobs they could have had will be given to foreign citizens who are not expected to fight that war." ... is specious. We have a strong economy with low unemployment. Plenty of opportunities for Americans, with or without the challenge of illegal immigration.

And another point: You may not be aware, but some of the soldiers fighting for USA are *not* citizens, but immigrants.

well then, someone needs to read you the Jim Robinson statement... fact is, we are in a critical election and critical phase. We need to re-elect Bush and stop the socialist Democrats from gaining any power at all.

We are wasting time quibbling right now.

After we win - *then* we put the pressure on Republicans to behave properly on these issues.

So there is no simple solution. Stop kidding yourself.

Well thirty percent of our prison population are illegals, maybe we could start there. Did you know when an illegal is released from prison, they are not automatically deported?

They make laws, and the Executive enforces them.

Not unless they first sign them into law, which he did, after saying he felt much of the law was unconstitutional. How is that not a violation of his oath of office? Signing a law that he believes to be unconstitutional.

He won't seal them because it's not possible to seal borders.

Oh Really? This crap is the number one excuse to do nothing. Right in there with the argument that a missile defense could not possibly be 100 percent affective so we should just do nothing.

A tightening of the border is just one of many things that can be done.

Cut off free medical care.

Eliminate the stop and drop citizenship fiasco

Actually prosecute employers who hire illegals

Stop the free education for illegals that citizens can not get.
Just a few.....

and a strict hands off policy fence is erected around Keyes, then there is one helluva double standard at work here.

Remember Pat Bucannon? Same rule applied then, except in reverse. It is Jim's board and he has the final say. Just look at the Brittney thread that was finally pulled, probably because it approached pornography.

Of course it's Jim's board and he has the final say. That doesn't mean I can't bring inequities to his attention though.
