Bandages with purple hearts a swipe at Kerry

NEW YORK - A GOP delegate handed out more than 200 bandages with purple hearts on them Monday night at the Republican National Convention in a swipe at Democratic nominee John Kerry's war record, but national GOP officials have asked him to stop.

The bandages were handed out by Morton Blackwell, a longtime GOP activist from Virginia, with the message: "It was just a self-inflicted scratch, but you see I got a Purple Heart for it."

Kerry won three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a bronze star for his service in the Vietnam War.

Democratic Chairman Terry McAuliffe said it is inexcusable to mock service and sacrifice.

GOP Chairman Ed Gillespie spoke to Blackwell and they agreed that he would not distribute any more bandages tonight.

"This was not a party activity, but he was acting as an individual," said Republican spokesman Jim Dyke.

Oh well. It served to send a message without saying a word. After all even the RINO Senator Arlen Specter says John F*ckin' talked about nothing but Vietnam - when he wasn't running for President. And hey, if the bandage fits, wear it.

Whine, whine, whine...I seem to recall terazor wore some nasty campaign buttons aimed at GW and the GOP didn't whine.

Glad the GOP put a stop to this truth telling. We can't stand the truth. Repeat after me, "John Kerry served honorably" (despite evidence to the contrary)

That's why average Joes and Janes are donating to the Swifties: party strategy won't be a factor when it comes to getting the truth out about Kerry.

While I despise Kerry for his treachery, enough is enough. He volunteered to go and he went! That is more than my neighbor did when he fled to Canada.

The real Kerry issue is his willingness to sell out anyone/everyone for his own gain. What will he do as a leader of America when the chips are down? We know.

THIS PRESIDENT. THIS TIME.

Democratic Chairman Terry McAuliffe said it is inexcusable to mock service and sacrifice.

Yet he and his crew get to mock the service of the Swift Boats?

Uh.....right.

Just damn.

Where has Kerry been hiding the last couple of days? Haven't heard anything from him since Friday. You would think that it was Edwards that was running for POTUS.

He's on vacation in Nantucket. Nothing scheduled except a speech to the American Legion on Wednesday. Maybe he'll be back to talk more about Vietnam. <yawn

I hope they were Band-Aids and not “bandages”.

The literary work read by most students in high school (or that used to be read), "The Red Badge of Courage" covered this theme, too.

I wonder if I'm the only one here old enough to remember the "battle ribbon" band-aids that Band-Aid sold back in the 50s...

Did Kerry, or did Kerry not, received one or more purple heart medals for wounds that were simply treated with a bandaid? Sometimes the truth hurts Terry! Now doesn't it?
