Americans stupid, says Latham foe (Australian politician)

Americans stupid, says Latham foe By LUKE McILVEEN in Canberra 03sep04 THE man chosen by the Liberal Party to remove Mark Latham from his western Sydney seat believes Americans are "stupid" and "have no idea how dumb they are".

Michael Medway, 25, also has advice for the "sad" people who drink Fosters Lager when overseas – "If you are that sad, stay at home, move to Rooty Hill and drink Fosters all night."

The insurance salesman from Liverpool has won Liberal preselection for the seat of Werriwa, but his colourful language and controversial views will have voters mistaking him for the Opposition Leader.

Mr Medway has spent much of the past two years travelling around Europe on Contiki tours and keeping a daily web diary – obtained by The Advertiser – for friends back home.

On a day trip to England's Stratford-on-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, he became particularly incensed at a group of US tourists.

"Once again the dumb American tourists appear with their uneducated, stupid comments. I have given up detailing these – I now just look at them and shake my head," he wrote afterwards.

"I am sure that they have no idea how dumb they are."

Frustrated by his inability to find an Internet connection at a nearby cafe, Mr Medway confided in his diary: "The American next to me couldn't get it to work – need I say anything more than silly dumb American bitch!"

Mr Medway needs a 17 per cent swing to defeat Mr Latham, but the release of his colourful diary is unlikely to catapult him into Parliament.

Born and bred in Liverpool, Mr Medway told a local newspaper this week that his family home, where he still lives with his parents, was directly across the road from Mr Latham's former residence.

"He was always a nice neighbour, but this area needs someone young and in touch with their concerns," he said, before a strategy meeting at Liberal Party headquarters last night.

Prime Minister John Howard will use Mr Latham's past comments about US President George W. Bush as a strategic weapon in the lead-up to the federal election on October 9.

This guy lives with his parents, generalizes about 300 million people, gets angry over beer-drinking habits; and we are stupid?

"Once again the dumb American tourists appear with their uneducated, stupid comments."

Yet where do the best and brightest in every country go to be educated?

Well, the way that I read this, he was frustrated because he couldn't get an internet connection and then trashed the American next to him because she wasn't able to get it to work either.

Bloody wanker ...

He also couldn't find an internet connection, but the other person who ALSO couldn't find a connection is a "dumb american bitch". Ooooooookay.

It is notable, considering the usual rhetoric of anti-American bigots, that he does not mention fat or obesity in his diatribes. Perhaps Mr. Medway is a bit on the hefty side himself? This is certainly unfortunate for one so young.
Then again, Michael Moore is practically a living god to the Australian left and Medway doesn't want to take the calculated hypocrisy too far.

The Liberal party is the Right wing party in Australia, I believe. So this guy must be out there.

He could always ask the "dumb Americans" who invented the internet in the first place, but he probably thinks that was Al Gore.

They'll vote him into office in the hope that he'll stop selling insurance.

Lesser of two evils, and all that.

The Liberal (party) leadership was apparently not aware of his views until it was too late.

Americans are "stupid" and "have no idea how dumb they are".

A tactic employed by the "stupid" who profoundly realize how "dumb they are." They must resort to generalized name-calling rants to comfort against their own self-loathing.

They call it "stupid" because we're logically more interested relatively speaking in our own country and its concerns than in theirs. How stupid does that make them-whining because we're more interested in our own concerns than in theirs? Sounds like an inferiority complex to me-to need us to always be aware of them and every little nuance of their national character and politics, when they know damn well that if we were to evince such a great interest in them and their affairs, they would flip it and say we were trying to meddle.
Must suck to be them and be afflicted as a nation with the "tall poppy" syndrome, even against their own.

All you've really described is the left...they seem pretty much the same everywhere.

I agree with an earlier poster, this guy's a "bloody wanker" and the crap he is spewing won't sit well with the Liberal Party and more importantly, with those who vote for them.

There are many many Australians who would join me in saying God bless America and thank God they carry the biggest stick!

You're correct and if you're an Aussie I apologise for generalising-I suppose the screeching left is so much more more vocal in Australia(as in Europe),that I forget there is also a quiet segment of conservatives who don't get heard. The media in those countries seem to have a stranglehold on the news and the representation of their respective countries' views.

Yes, Americans are stupid. That's why we have the highest standard of living that has ever existed.

Well said. I thought about reminding everyone that the reporter who so adroitly exposed Medway is also an Australian. I think Medway will be finding a new party affiliation before long.

Many thanks. The ADF swings a pretty big stick itself. Just in case, though, if the Mohammedan hordes ever start south and you need help, you know who to call.

Americans are "stupid" and "have no idea how dumb they are".

Ha ha ha.

I generally like Aussies, but in my travels around SE Asia they are the most prone to be seen staggering down putrid Asian alleys, singing odes to their "football" teams, vomiting mutton pies onto barroom floors, and eventually pissing in their shorts as they pass out from the 10th liter of Fosters.

They throw great parties with burgers and ... Fosters (what else)... but when the singing begins it's time to leave.

"he couldn't get an internet connection and then trashed the American next to him"

This guy lives with his MOMMY and DADDY. We should not be surprised that he acts like a child in projecting his frustrations onto other people. This is what leftists do the world over - accuse everyone else of being the problem.

No apologies needed...I know exactly how you feel!

"The media in those countries seem to have a stranglehold on the news and the representation of their respective countries' views."

They certainly do!To the point where I can hardly watch tv anymore without getting high blood pressure from the anti-American claptrap that seems neverending.

The left's constant whining makes them sound like insecure 15 yr olds...I mean...how many 'adults' would write "stupid American bitch" in a diary!?

It beggars belief sometimes.

Thank goodness for FR.

God bless
