A European 'conservative' is really an socialist of the Democratic Party kind.
That is why Arnold recognized what Hubert Humphry as saying the same things he heard in Austria
The Conservatism of America is far to the right of anything 'conservative' in Europe.
Arnold needs to tell these 'girly men' to 'get out of his face' (Zell Miller)

They may have been compassionate conservatives.

He said that when he had to go into the Soviet area. He didn't say the leaders were Socialists, only that he heard the Socialist propaganda.

I hope this backfires on MSM. The public love Arnold. They won't like MSM trying to smear him.

Conservative when compared to whom?  The liberals can not win based upon their ideas so they need to launch into their pathetic personal attacks.

Good point. The same people who would never doubt Kerry, in spite of the Swift Boat Vets, now take it as fact that Arnold was lying. But unlike the SBV's, Arnold's critics are merely speculating and were not at the same place at the same time as the events in question.

This is nonsense! Austria was neutral during the Cold War.

Dr. Bruno Kreisky, a diplomat and leader in the early post-Staatsvertrag Austria, was a socialist. He was responsible for signing treaties (details?) with the Russians.

Actually, communists had a significant prsence in the post-Staatsvertrag government!

The AP are stooges for communism. I saw a new side of Governor Schwarzenegger that impressed me at the Convention. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it.

Isn't it interesting that Kerry can tell a lie (Cambodia) for 35 years and no one in the media bothers to check, but within 24 hours of a statement by a Republican and the press is all over it.

Tell me again there is no bias in the media.

Oh boy.........Is Hillary doing recon or what? Fear of communism in Europe was at a frantic height in the 60's and 70's. I remember my mom worked for a company which sold products to Europe. Several executives of those firms had small arms placed inside the large five gallon pails being shipped to England, France, and Belgium. I don't know if they thought they would hold off the Soviet Army with handguns, but they were absolutely paranoid over Soviet expansionism. I know they saw it every day even if it was not a reality. People who know history would understand the fear. People from Estonia, Ukraine, Romania, can tell you. The ones who fled to neighboring countries will tell you as well.

So where was the CNN two-days later report about Nixon sending Catsup into Cambodia before Nixon was president?

We'll see how big this story becomes - how loud the dinosaurs bellow and compare them to the stories they hide on any given day.

"This is nonsense! Austria was neutral during the Cold War."

Austria was occupied by both sides until 1956. Around then the US was forming NATO, and rearming both the Germans and Italians to fight on our side against the Soviets. We had planned to incorporate "Free Austria" -- the western sector -- into NATO. The Soviets knew that, knew also that Switzerland was going to be neutral.

The Soviets cut a deal with Austria -- we end our occupation of your country. When you reunite your country you declare yourself neutral. By doing this, the Soviets denied NATO a unified unbroken front from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic. Instead, NATO forces in Italy would have to go through France -- around Switzerland and Austria -- to get to Southern Germany and vice versa.

The Iron Curtain -- did not harden to Berlin Wall solidity until after 1956. It took the Hungarian Uprising that year to start the solidification which ended in 1962 with the erection of the Berlin Wall.
