Dan Rather's stand (Wolf Blitzer profiles Rather vs. Republican presidents)
CNN ^ | 9/10/04 | Wolf Blitzer

Posted on 09/10/2004 8:14:13 PM PDT by Cableguy

This is not the first time Dan Rather has found himself in a serious dispute with a U.S. president.

There was this exchange in 1974 during the height of the Watergate scandal with then-President Richard Nixon:

Nixon: Are you running for something?

Rather: No sir, are you?

And there was this exchange with then-Vice President George Bush in 1988 over the Iran-Contra scandal.

Rather: I don't want to be argumentative, Mr. vice president.

Bush: You do, Dan.

Rather: No -- no, sir, I don't.

Bush: This is not a great night, because I want to talk about why I want to be president, why those 41 percent of the people are supporting me. And I don't think it's fair to judge my whole career by a rehash of Iran. How would you like it if I judged your career by those seven minutes when you walked off the set in New York?

Now, the 72-year-old CBS News anchor finds himself in yet another confrontation with a Republican president.

Does this indicate that Wolf Blitzer is 'fair and balanced' or is he jumping on the bandwagon like Ted Koppel?

The other mainstreamers would be stupid to not jump this story. They have an opportunity to make CBS News irrelevant over the near term. That works to NBC's and ABC's advantage. Heck, somebody could win a Pulitzer if they have the guts to expose this fraud for what it is.

This will probably be the downfall of Rather. I think he really wanted to be instrumental in destroying another president.

This is not Dan Rather in a fight with the President. Bush has not engaged THIS particulat issue. This is dan rather in a fight with credible witnesses and experts, Killian relatives, typing forensic experts, yada yada yada trying to retain any ofd his his own credibility. Wolf Blizted out on this half A attempt to place Bush in the same playing field with the low life Rather. Sorry Wolfie--won't fly.

The rest of the media may be leftist, but there is blood in the water & they are already working up a feeding frenzy. And I bet a lot of journalists really resent that a crazy old goat like Rather gets to play God on TV every night.

Sit back, pop some corn, and enjoy the show.

I think that other networks who are just as biased as CBS will follow through with dismembering CBS. Divide and Conquer. It's the defacto democrat strategy.

Vague memory...what was that about?

BUSTED!!! Freggin` great! And if you notice, isn`t there just a bit too many dots all over that page?? As if someone went overboard trying to make it look old?? To me, it looks like someone took the tip of a ballpoint pen and dotted it at random. If the copy machine had ink spilled on it, the dots wouldn`t all be round, some dots would looked smudged. These dots are all round and even look to me as if they are different sized because they were applied with varying pressure, much like someone would do quickly with a ballpoint pen.

11 Sep 1987 After a tennis match seemed to be running long, [Rather] walks off the set of CBS Evening News at the start of broadcasting, leaving dead air for seven minutes. Walter Cronkite: "I would have fired him. There's no excuse for it."

George H. W. Bush b!tch slapped Rather with that one as a riposte in a hostile interview. It staggered Rather.

I had forgotten Dan's fight with Bush 41. Now his vicious refusal to admit he was wrong makes sense. Go away danny boy.
