Two attackers riding on a motorcycle shot dead a radical Islamic cleric near a mosque in this eastern Pakistani city on Sunday, police said.
Maulana Ibrahim Salfi was gunned down, while heading home after offering morning prayers at the mosque in township, a middle class residential neighbourhood in Lahore, said Farhan Baig, a Lahore police superintendent.
Salfi, 44 an imam or prayer leader at the mosque died instantly when he was shot in the head and neck, Baig said. No one claimed responsibility and the attackers fled. Baig said police are investigating.
Salfi was a senior figure in Jamaat al-Dawat, or Party of Preachers a radical Islamic group that emerged after the Government banned Laskhar-e-Taiba, a terrorist organisation, which claims to fight Indian forces in its portion of Kashmir. Yahya Mujahid, a spokesman for Jamaat al-Dawat, blamed India for Salfi's killing.
"This is terrorism. Since we are working in Kashmir, it is India which has done this," Mujahid said.
President Gen Pervez Musharraf outlawed Laskhar-e-Taiba in 2002, after India blamed it for involvement in an attack on its Parliament in December 2001.
Ping
no great loss
It's a start. Progress is still progress, no mater how small.
Sad......that they didn't gun down the rest.
Nobody puts any extra effort into projects these days.
Must be Karl Rove's fault.
American hit teams? Russian hit teams? Christian hit teams? Hindu hit teams.
The Islamanazis of the world, had better realize that they now have a large array of enemies in the world --- and they are armed, angry and determined to destroy them...
Sleep well lunatics -- the world is coming for YOU...

Preach by the Jihad, die by the Jihad.
Looks like Pak is taking out the trash.
One less thousands more to go.

No one mourned, either.
Maybe the gunmen will show up at the funeral and do the same to his followers.
Offering prayers? Makes him sound so giving and inoffensive, doesn't it?
Close, but no cigar. Sources say that Maulana Ibrahim Salfi flat out refused to back John F'n Kerry, because Kerry refused to cite Salfi as being worthy of a Purple Hardon !!!
Sure hope they don't kill any trees for this story.
If he was a "radical" Muslim cleric, wouldn't that mean he was advocating an end to terrorist attacks?
IMHO, this is the single best way to fight terrorism. Go after the Imams who are preaching hatred, make it not worth their while to continue with fanatical religion that results in the deaths of innocents.
