Now is the time for the Justice Department to step in and inform the judge that he must submit authority to do what the judge is ordering. If there is abuse of his authority, refer it to an investigation of this judge. What in the hell do we have a Justice Department for?

Records maintained by the Federal Government are subject to two separate laws with completely different objectives. In general, the Privacy Act is designed to protect the privacy of individuals while the Freedom of Information Act is designed to facilitate open access to records.

The Air Force has a separate web page for each of these acts.

The site for the Freedom of Information Act is http://www.foia.af.mil/.
The site for the Privacy Act is http://www.foia.af.mil/Privacy/.

These are rather complex laws and are often conflicting. Disagreements are quite often settled in court. It may take some study but if you will go to the web sites, you can get a general understanding of what is at issue.
