I've looked around for the story about the kid in New Haven,CT who had his friend shoot him so he could avoid the draft he was told is coming. Heard it on Paul Harvey and found News of the Weird references to it, but can't find the original story any where. I'd like to know more and who told him this BS. I know they don't learn much in school any more , but damn.

If this is true, I would lay the blame on lurch. The Kerry campaign has been starting whispering rumors about an impending draft to scare the wits out of young male voters.

unfortunately, in most public schools, the "upcoming draft" is a huge subject in high school government classes. my teacher last year would talk every day about the imminent draft, and the ways that we could get out of it. the way he described it, the draft was already in place.
then again this is the teacher who taught us of the "man in the blue turban" and the KGB. gotta love public schools.

IF this is true, it's a prime candidate for both the JD and smartassedness lists...
Would someone please inform this poor misguided child that all drafts of recent history were initiated by Democrats. Hell, even the peacetime registration for the draft was initiated by none other than Jimmy Carter.
In other words, this kid need only fear a draft if Kerry gets elected. So long as a Republican sits in the White House, we'll have enough volunteers.
