"...It is also not the first time that Mapes has agreed to be a go-between in a controversial setting. FOX News has obtained a letter written to Mapes by the warden of a high security federal prison in Colorado.
He accused the CBS producer of concocting a scheme to help secretly pass information between convicted white supremacist Peter Langan (search) and another federal prisoner, a violation of federal regulations..."

Mapes formerly worked in Washington state, where she was involved in a similar scandal involving a police shooting. I haven't seen a posted story on it yet but I will bring it to FR if I find it.
So what's the info trail on this Mapes/prison revelation?
Fox doesn't say who tipped them. I think we can assume it
wasn't Mapes herself.
This looks suspiciously like someone on the "guilty" side
of the RatherGate story has decided that Mapes is to be
a scapegoat.
And the Fox angle? They couldn't rely on "their" media
to air the story, so they slipped it to the "enemy" media.
Who cares about the mechanics of the story? If Fox News says it's true, I believe them.
That's a very dangerous attitude to take.
I think one of the biggest parts of this story is the revelation that SeeBS went to Burkett for the documents rather than Burkett going to SeeBS. This is getting weirder and weirder by the day.
The thread began as a report from a broadcast.

She will be the first to go. Hopefully Andrew Heyward will exit also. Rather will "retire" within 6-12 months but SeeBS will assure us that his Leftwing activism has no relationship to Danny's "retirement."
I believe everything from Fox News!
That's kind of funny. I'm not sure what it means, but it's funny.
Damn! You made me spit my Frappuccino all over my keyboard!
I certainly hope you're joking.
< pajamas >
What the heck is her motivation for doing that?
Is she a white supremacist?
Who was the other prisoner?
Could hse be chasing (or manufacturing) a story involving prison mail?
< /pajamas>
Is it a criminal act to subvert prison security measures? Isnt there a lawyer under indictment right now for passing non-legal messages between a prisoner and someone on the outside?
> Who cares about the mechanics of the story?
Because that's also a story. CBS wants to keep forgery
away from the DNC/Kerry at all costs, and wants to save
Rather's butt, and the management chain above him.
Everyone else is expendable. So who is expending Mapes?
> If Fox News says it's true, I believe them.
I never said I doubted it, and in the present environment,
we can be sure Fox is triple-checking.
I never joke around! And when I see Laurie Dhue read the news, with those beautiful pouty lips, I believe it more than 100% -- that's what truth looks like to me!
You betcha!
She had to know it was wrong, regardless of criminality. So what was she after?
Did she get it?
