Beaten Soldier Thankful For Support

Follow up to yesterdays story.

GROVE CITY, Ohio -- A local soldier and his family have received an outpouring of support from across the country since NBC 4 first aired a story about being beaten at a local concert, NBC 4's Nancy Burton reported.

Foster Barton, 19, of Grove City, said that hearing from so many people makes him realize he and his fellow soldiers have a lot of support, and that one single act of violence should not take away from that.

Barton said his nose still hurts, but the support he received through phone calls and e-mails is helping him heal.

"It's been incredible," Barton said. "The phone has not stopped ringing."

I still don't see how this was allowed to happen with no one coming to his aid at a TOBY KEITH CONCERT. What's wrong with this picture?

Did they catch the guy who did it? Last I heard, they had a friend of the perp, so it shouldn't take too long to make an arrest if this is a high priority for the local PD.

Old Sarge will not be posting to this thread.

Sarge is currently self-admnistering stress relief, in the form of gnawing on the kitchen table, after thinking about what happened to his fellow soldier and what the crowd didn't do to help him.

Sarge will return to duty, once his new upper plate is fitted, and the table leg is re-finished.

Thank you.

I don't understand why this happened at a Toby Keith concert. It is nice to hear that he got support.

I think it's great that people have contacted him to be supportive, and when he goes back to Iraq it will undoubtedly help morale for the guys there when he tells them about it. But I also think it shows what this kid is made of that "the sooner the better" he gets back to Iraq. That's the kind of thing that makes me so impressed with our soldiers. They're great guys.

Beth Rutherford didn't know Barton before Monday night. She was so moved by what happened, she copied NBC 4's story onto the Internet.

Beth Rutherford is our very own flutters!

To bad these liberals don't hate the terrorists, maybe they could put their anger to good use.

You know what bothers me? The story was on the internet but NBC's reporting shows their ignorance on the whole topic of discussion boards.

Still...great job flutters (Beth) :D

Hi Old Sarge

I feel your frustration, but I can kinda see how the guy got away with it.

It was an ambush, pure and simple. The kid got hit from behind, got kicked two or three times while he was on the ground, and then the perp ran into the crowd.

I know that if I saw something like this it would take me a few moments to react as this is something you just don't expect to see. It catches you off guard, and by the time you do react, the coward is running away and your thoughts of stopping the fight turn to helping the poor guy on the ground.

Still, I too think that the assailant should be allowed to meet some of this man's squad mates for a little wall to wall counseling.

Best Regards, keep the powder dry, and keep a spare plate handy.

I didn't think democrats liked Toby Keith. Guess there was at least one Kerry supporter there.

All too true.

But it doesn't change this fact: The Sheep will not lift a finger to help.

The guy sucker-punched him from behind and then ran into the crowd. It was in the parking lot so, I'm sure, most people didn't even see it.

Just like in NY during the convention, the Democrats waited outside hotels and restaurants for Republican delegates to come out and then harassed and heckled them. There are probably DU types outside every Toby Keith concert looking for trouble.

Sarge, I hear ya. I felt the same way. That is why I didn’t want this young soldier’s story to fade away.

I’m sorry FreeRepublic wasn’t mentioned in the story. I repeated the web address “FreeRepublic.com” over and over and over and over...but it didn't make the coverage. :(

I’ll ping the followers of this story with an update tomorrow.

Oh, I don't think it will, now. Free Republic is now The Site That Must Not Be Named, as far as the MSM is concerned.

God Bless you Old Sarge!

My son, an E6 stationed now in El Paso, would probably love to administer some stress relief of his own to the perp who hurt this soldier using whatever was left of your table leg!

But I really think the most devastating blow was struck by the soldier's Mom, who prayed for forgiveness for the COWARD who hurt her son. The real battle being waged by our soldiers in Iraq is the a battle which will never be won, here on earth, but nonetheless must be fought--and bravely too! For it is the battle of decency against depravity, kindness against cruelty, hope against despair, and Light against darkness. And the strongest weapon in that battle is Love, which in its darkest hour, rose from death and defeated it.

I believe Mrs. Barton understands the power of that Love, and trusts in it enough to turn the assailant of her son over to It. God bless her and you, too,Sarge--for your service to our country!

This is exactly what Kerry and his Komrads are trying to whip up = just as they did in 71 and our troops came home and were spit on , whipped, called baby killers - didn't dare wear the uniforms they so proudly served in - and many had deep depression for years...because of John F. Kerry and his group and lies, whipping up the public.
WE MUST NOT LET THEM DO IT AGAIN.
Letters to your local editors could help nip this in the bud.
Kerry is simply screaming his 1971 rhetoric, telling any and all lies he can - not from any conviction (he wouldn't know a conviction if it bit him in the ... nether region) - he just wants to be president at any cost - even if that cost is paid by our troops, even if that cost is paid by us when the terrorists, which he would not fight, brought their slaughtering to us once again.
Kerry and his mentor, Ted Kennedy are socialists. That is not a figure of speech. Zell Miller and Cadell and others wonder what's happened to the democratic party? It's been infiltrated and taken over by the socialists. I infiltrated a meeting as an investigative reporter some 23 years ago of the DSOC - (Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee). Kennedy was their acclaimed leader. Our state Senate majority leader (democrat) was the main speaker who said: "As you know, I, like you, am a card carrying member of the socialist party." He went on to say that, because they were not yet strong enough yet to operate in the open, they would have to infiltrate and take over the democratic party. I wont go into the methods and the grass roots training they outlined here - but make no mistake, this election has some mighty big money on it and powerful people. They know that if they don't succeed to get a man in the white house now - they may have lost, for some time to come, the window of opportunity. This election is probably the most crucial one of our lifetimes. write letters to the editors about this young man getting beaten up because he's a soldier fighting for freedom and remind them that the rantings of Kerry caused this same thing over 30 years ago - don't let it happen again.
NOTE: did you see where this young soldier, who is stateside recuperating from a wound that almost took his leg, can't wait to get back to his unit in Iraq?
Kerry got himself - by himself - some scratches that never even required an hour in a hospital and hi-tailed it for home. (BTW, the navy is now looking into possible forged recommendation on one of those medals.)
