"Sweet Nothings: Bush's U.N. speech offers platitudes instead of solutions."

George W. Bush doesn't like speaking at the United Nations. You can see it in his eyes—the flicker of perplexity, bordering on distress, when he recites a line that draws surefire cheers on the campaign trail but only blank, distant stares from the assembly of world leaders....

On the pressing issue of Iraq, Bush called on the civilized nations to help the new regime in its quest for freedom and security. "Each of us alone can only do so much," Bush declared toward the end of his speech. "Together we can accomplish so much more." The assembled leaders might be forgiven for thinking, "Now he wants us."

This article neglects one major enormous incredilious fact... that Bush actually went to the U.N. before the war and asked for help. Leftist journalists have almost copyrighted the phrase that Bush chose to "go it alone" in Iraq. The fact is that Bush went to the United Nations and asked them to honor their 17(!!!!!!) resolutions that they made culminating with resolution 1441 which said that "serious consequences" would be administered if Sadam refused to comply with weapons inspectors... and then... he still didn't. Bush went to the U.N. in an effort to gain military and political support... but it was still almost a last chance for the U.N. to save face by actually enforcing its rulings.

Journalists often deal in revisionist history. They seem to always take the side of the U.N. over the U.S. When Bush went to war with 35 countries (including England, Australia, Spain,...etc.), it was regarded as Cowboy militarism because Kofi Annan pussied out. I think of it that the U.N. abandoned the U.S., which supplies it with over 1/3 of its resources, rather than the U.S. going without them. Plus, in the U.N. Resolution and the U.S. Congressional bill for authorization of power for the President, both include the a provision that the President reserves the right to act unilaterally if they feel it is in the best interest of national security. John Kerry even said at the time, that "The President should have the authority to act unilaterally if he feels its in the best interest of our country," which is a much different tune than his "internationalist" position that he's taken in recent weeks.

So, in the minds of the leftist media, Bush looks stupid, instead of the U.N. looking like a bunch of pussies. But, I would ask these journalists how the situations in Rwanda, Somalia, and the Balkin peninsula are fairing these days after the almighty U.N. went in there with their "humanitarian" programs. Under U.N. law, Milosevic is still in limbo, and the Serbs and Croats, the Indians and Pakistanis are all still on the brink of war, and Iran is enriching uranium and you better believe that the exact same thing would happen if the U.S. wants to deal with any of these things. I won't even bring up the Oil for Food scandal which just in the past few weeks has been proven to have funded terrorists linked to Al Qaida and Al Aqsa in Israel.

President Bush had a long face as he walked up to give his speech to the U.N. The media thinks that face is one of apprehension because he "should be" embarassed that Iraq has become a quagmire. However, I would contend that his face has a different expression behind it. What if it was a "this is a waste of time" look? His face was not one of someone who had just been told, "I told you so," but it was one of, "thanks for nothing." He is dismissive of the U.N. because it is insignificant.... and no matter what, a President Kerry not withstanding, the French, Russian, and German troops are not on the way. The U.N. is a sham, and as much as the media wants to paint the picture that the U.N. was right and we were wrong, that is just not the case.

The big story of this war, on the ground, right now is one that the media is neglecting. They report that terrorists are "pouring" in from Syria and Iran, and they say that this is a sign of deterioration. However, this'll take a a second to sink in so keep reading my thesis... thats been the plan all along!!!! Just the way it sounds. Its good to have a battleground in the Middle East to fight these bastards... cause, if not, they'll fight on our soil using tools of terrorism on civilians. Iraq has become ground zero in the War on Terror, and its been the plan the whole time to fight them on their soil and not ours.... but that story would help the President, so don't expect to read it in Slate or Salon or the NY Times or, my favorite, CBS.

The UN is irrelevant, as are most of those stooges who were sitting on their hands during Bush's speech.

Most of them had their hands out, taking oil-for-food money from Saddam.

Worthless symps, all.

Bush's speeches at the UN have been, appropriately, thunderbolts. It is the UN delegates who are the putzes to shrink into their rationalizations.

You win wars by carrying the fight to the enemies turf, not by hunkering down and kissing dirt(the Maginot Line was a joke). I much prefer the "increase in chaos" overthere than overhere.
