Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to see Iran a free nation. But even if they do manage to overthrow the mullahs, Iran will continue to be an Islamic country, with all the sociological baggage that comes with that oppressive, totalitarian, hateful religion.

Could Iran without theocratic leadership become what we Americans would call a free nation? I would like to believe so, but in all sincerity, I doubt if that is possible without overthrowing the yoke of Islam from their hearts and minds.

Since the Islamic penalty for apostacy is death, I am not expecting much.

It would be a first. The Russians weren't able to overthrown the KGB and secret police - maybe they still haven't. The Iraqis couldn't overthrow the secret police. The Germans couldn't overthrow the Gestapo. I'd be surprized if a popular revolt could overthrow a sitting tryanny, rather than one based an ocean away, as was the case in the American Revolution.

Is there any confirmation of the real numbers of protestors from 2 days ago yet?

The most recent reports I have received lead me to believe that the original numbers are likely inflated, as I reported previously.

The numbers reported widely of 2,000 demonstrators have been refuted by eyewitnesses I have heard from personally. In one location I heard credible reports of 7-10,000 demonstrators in one location. Understand that the numbers are hard to verify due the fact that the demonstrations are scattered all over.

Behrooz has revised his estimate to 70-100,000 demonstrators. I doubt we will ever get better estimates beyond this.
