This has been going on a while, the speculation that RF near the skull has some effect or the other, but this David Butler is just out there, and he's not doing any justice to the truth.

20-25 years ago when HTs started getting real popular folks started hearing things about the RF from them being a cause of cancer, but I don't think any studies have shown anything causative there or even any association.

There was something a while back about some problems with cops who used hand held radar guns a lot, but there you have RF at much higher power levels, at higher frequency, and a more narrow beamwitdth, so such a signal, if it is potentially detrimental, would be more apt to be so than 2-5 Watts from a HT or the 250 mW or so from a cell phone. If there is any affect good or bad from a cell phone I don't think it would be from heat because there's no way one could possibly generate heat in tissue that would bring it outside of the normal body temperature range.

Going back to the radar units - yeah there might be something there - there was a higher incidence of cancer in lower abdominal areas in cops who kept speed guns powered up and sitting in their laps (not done much anymore thanks to the newer technology of vehicle mounted smart radar units and hand held laser units). You can also get burned if you are a tower worker who missteps into the beam of a high power microwave dish.

Talk about a fringe meeting...

I have seen people with cell phones practically glued to their heads. Yak, yak, yak, yak, yak. Yada, yada, yada. Five minutes standing in line at the grocery store -- oh, goody, just enough time for another phone call! Probably a $200 per month phone bill for all the conversations about the games or the soap operas. What is really fun is when a driver is yaking on the phone, running stop signs, as if to say, "LOOK AT ME! I AM SPECIAL! I HAVE A PHONE SURGICALLY ATTACHED TO MY HEAD! IT MIGHT BE SCRAMBLING MY BRAIN CELLS, SO GET OUT OF MY WAY! I have not observed that mobile phone use has enhanced anyone's intelligence.
