I think a winner has to have name recognition - a lot can happen in 4 yrs, but as of today I think Guiliani/Jeb would have the best chance of winning.

Question #1: We've won the House, The Senate and the Presidency with the social Conservative coalition.
In Florida we control the Governorship, the house and the Senate.
Why would we intentionally wreck the winning est coalition since Roosevelt?
You shouldn't, of course -- but you must remember that the coalition consists of more than just social conservatives, and that the entire country does not mirror Florida. Social moderates and fiscal conservatives have made a lot of compromises in the last four years, and will make more in the next four if Bush is reelected. By 2008, it will be time to throw them a bone or two.
I've heard lots of good things about Pawlenty and Owens but the problem with modern primaries is that the guys with natiowide name recognition get such a big headstart for such a short race - Iowa, New Hampshire, a quick dip in the Southern primaries and it's over. Luckily for us, that media driven, hyped up system gave the Rats Kerry this year. Unfortunately it is likely to give us a McCain, or Giulliani. That's why I hope for Jeb. He is is the strongest November general candidate that can still wrap up the nomination by January.
Obviously, we disagree on this point. IMHO, Giuliani's negative/positive ratio is no worse than GWB's was in 2000. You disagree about that. I guess we'll have to wait and see which of us is right.
Hillary is overrated. She'll get the black vote, gay vote, and pro-abort women's vote, but will be crushed by conservative women and most men. She won't sell in the upper Midwest either.

You're right, the country does not mirror Florida.
The Red states are way MORE Conservative then Florida.
Florida is the most liberal red state in the South.
You may want to review the history of Ronald Reagan's primary run if you think the party can control the process on that grand a scale.The parties had way more power then and the GOP establishment firmly opposed the candidacy of Ronald Reagan.
I don't use my deeply held convictions to "throw a bone" to anyone.
As far as I'm concerned way too many bones have already been thrown to the mods.

I don't care who he is running against, even Hillary. I will NOT vote for John McCain. Not ever.
He has proven to be a totally undependable candidate. It would be like voting for a dartboard. He's never met a position he wouldn't change if it would get him love from the media.
I've held my nose and voted for a few RINOs but I will NEVER vote for McCain. I have to draw the line somewhere.
I like freedom, low taxes, strong military, aggressive foreign policy, low regulation. Could care less about pro life, prayer in schools, the flag, gay marriage, etc. symbolic issues that mean nothing except to its one issue adherents.
Pro life may be important to you, but the status quo will not change. Live with it.
Rudy Guiliani would show that the GOP understands that.

I agree. Hillary is one of the weaker candidates the Dems could put forward.
I'd really hate to face Bill Richardson, hopefully we can end John Edwards' career here and now, and I'd rather have Hillary then even lesser lights like Russ Feingold, Tom Vilsack and Fast Eddie Rendell.
