So police are to be considered dangerous and must be avoided if one doesn't want to be beaten?

Here, let me correct your statement for you:

"So police are to be considered dangerous on duty and must be avoided not be attacked if one doesn't want to be beaten arrested?"

There, that's better.

I had always thought police were to protect citizens, not beat them up if they are annoying or looked at the officer wrong.

Why are you trying to muddy the waters and bring up fictional scenarios that did not occur in this case? Are you related to this foul-mouthed woman or something? The woman was disturbing the peace, was legally told to knock it off, gave the cop lip then physically attacked him, and was arrested as a result. The end result was as preordained as the pain you will always experience if you hit your thumb with a hammer.

As a daily DC METRO rider, I can tell you that this comes as no surprise. In fact, I wish they'd start cracking down more on the obnoxious jackasses on the trains! I don't care if the woman's pregnant or not; you're in public - you act like a human being or suffer the consequences.

This beligerant behavior is much more prevalent on the DC and Maryland side of the METRO rail system. Cross over into Virginia and it's like night and day. About the worst I've ever seen in Virginia is the occasional self-absorbed, self-important "metrofessional" who feels compelled to let the whole world know how essential his cell call is to our way of life by boistrously elaborating on the minute details of his critical exchange.

I don't give a rat's ass how many damn powerpoint slides it took for you to show the exact crux of the issue, whizbang! SHUT UP, already!

Usually a few sighs and dirty looks do the trick and he'll tone it down. On the other side of the river, however...say anything at all and it's just another case of "the man" trying to hold 'em down again.

If you get to have an opinion, then I should be able to have an opinion too.

More dust kicked up, more obfuscation and false scenarios kited. No one is stopping you from expressing your opinion.

Being a loudmouth isn't a crime. Anyone can be a loudmouth, pregnant or not. Next you will say stupidity is a crime. In case you are wondering, it isn't.

You are making an inference that was not implied. I simply stated that her pregnancy does not excuse her behavior. And I never said she was arrested simply for talking loudly. She was arrested for her behavior toward the police officer, which is something entirely different.

Of course stupidity isn't a crime. If it were, you would be in jail.

"No one is stopping you from expressing your opinion"

lol....no shiite sherlock. I was just pointing out your logical inconsistancies.

Never mind me. I have been in enough debates like this to know that for law and order types, nothing a law enforcement officer could ever do, would ever be considered wrong, or even questionable.

Police are angels with badges, sent down from heaven to punish the wicked and cradle the righteous. They are not ordinary human beings so it is impossible that they could ever experience a lapse in judgment or commit a crime, right?

sigh.....it must be nice to live in a fantasy land?

"Of course stupidity isn't a crime. If it were, you would be in jail."

I see.. So now I am stupid because I object to police officers playing the role of Miss Manners with a billy club? Suit yourself.

If you think the role of law enforcement is to police the manners of citizens then you have already fallen to the DARK SIDE and there isn't anymore hope for you. I am afraid you are lost forever;^)

Projecting again, I see. Why else would you need to make up stuff where none actually existed?

Never mind me. I have been in enough debates like this to know that for law and order types, nothing a law enforcement officer could ever do, would ever be considered wrong, or even questionable.

When what an LEO does isn't questionable in any way, its only logical that I say so. Conversely, it is crystal clear when you hand-wringing amateur civil libertarians start crying about police brutality when none occurred.

Police are angels with badges, sent down from heaven to punish the wicked and cradle the righteous.

(yawn)

And the "disturbing the peace" law is just an excuse for jackbooted thugs with badges to keep the people cowed and docile. And all cops are really sadistic meanies who run around playing Wipeout with their PR24s on righteous citizen's heads.

Golly, I HAVE to try out one of those time machines. Maybe I too can figure out a way to go back to the 60s - I could make a fortune on Apple stock alone.

sigh.....it must be nice to live in a fantasy land?

Well, considering that my "fantasy land" doesn't include a police force who all sit around dreaming up ways to oppress the citizenry, I like my "fantasy" land better than I like yours.

Let me guess.....you got a ticket yesterday and you're pissed about it, right?

Or you're one of those militia-types who thinks that the law is out to "get" you and that the entire mission of law in general is to oppress you and all the "real" free thinkers and rugged individualists, of which you are one, of course?

If you're an example of a person for whom there is hope and hasn't "fallen to the dark side," whatever that's supposed to mean, then I would rather be hopeless.

"Projecting again, I see. Why else would you need to make up stuff where none actually existed?"

Honestly, I don't know why I bother, but do you honestly not see how in your previous post you wrote that: "No one was falsely arrested" thereby stating your opinion.........and then berated me for stating my opinion by writing: "And you don't get to decide whether the officer "falsely" arrested anyone or not - that's up to the courts and a jury."

This IS a logical inconsistency. It is not projection or "More dust kicked up, more obfuscation and false scenarios kited" or "mudding the waters" or whatever.

I will grant you that since neither of us were there it is very difficult to ascertain who was to blame for this incident, the woman or the officer. I believe the police officer had no right to demand that she be quiet in the first place and she should have refrained from escalating the confrontation afterwards.

Since the officer was in a greater position of authority I believe the blame for this incident should mainly rest with him. With increased authority comes greater responsibility. Neither party showed good judgment or responsibility IMO.

you said; "Let me guess.....you got a ticket yesterday and you're pissed about it, right?"

Actually I haven't gotten a ticket in years. I get pulled over about once a year for speeding but always get off with a warning. I have found that if you treat officers with respect and good humor they can be great guys.

I am not angry at police in general, but I am disgusted with the attitude that police can do no wrong and we as citizens must bow meekly before them even if they are behaving like butt heads.

you said; "If you're an example of a person for whom there is hope and hasn't "fallen to the dark side," whatever that's supposed to mean, then I would rather be hopeless."

Did you see the little smiley face after my dark side rant? That means I was kidding. Lighten up:^)

"I agree with you. Any man who throws a pregnant woman to the ground because he felt she was "talking too loud" must have been raised in a barn. I feel sorry for his wife if she ever raises her voice to him."

I'd say its more likely, and more telling, that they were both probably born in the city. Those who are born in barns act more civilized than this.

Quit being a dumbass, it just makes life harder.

Unfortuntely, it seems to be applying to many Freepers on this thread, who are more than willing to take Shaniquah's, Sanikah's, Shariakah's...whatever.. word over the policeman's.

They make the fraudulent assumption that this cop was just cruising the metro looking to lump up on someone.

Just because she's black and pregnant does not place her above the law or make her into the next civil rights poster child.

If many of the DA's here would have taken time to read the article they would see that even a city council member agrees she was technically on the wrong side of the law.

Shankiah, Sharika, Tompopeka..whatever.. could have easily avoided her timely arrest by simply complying. Which would not have prostrated her in front of "The Man", but would have merely shown a little civility.

"In the good ol' days, if a woman put herself in the place of a man, she got recompensed treatment as she gave. Too bad he couldn't have backhanded her one across her filthy lips."

Gee, I really do miss those good old days. Yep. Could backhand that beeyotch right across her filthy lips, and no one would say boo about it. Sure do miss them good ole days.../sarcasm

The greatest guarantor of rights for all people is the government, and specifically the police officer on the street.

Bull$hit. The greatest guaranteer of rights is the right to keep and bear arms. At least that's what the Founders thought.

I would add "Any woman who intentionally places her unborn child in danger due to fighting with the police should be thrown in jail, lose custody of her child, etc."

Good thing she wasn't committing a real crime like jaywalking....
