DC Metro cops will "harass" or "intimidate" any person that ain't a suit going to or from a goobermint office building. Not like this screamer was standing around with a pro kerry or bush sign screaming at folks passing by 'n such..... 3 things these days that'll get ya tried and dried in a public forum is a cell phone, a SUV or a so called assault weapon. After all this was a metro subway and we all know we go there to sleep and raise children , listen to gregorian chant's etc etc ....
Stay safe !

Prosecutors successfully get convictions for disturbing the peace every day by the courts, and none of them to my knowledge require the arresting officer to carry a calibrated dB meter and/or have a cell phone. Unless she plea-bargains, Foulmouth is either going to jail or will be paying a heavy fine - bank on it.

That lady may have been too loud, and I don't doubt that, put forcing a pregnant women (no matter what type of b_tch she might be) to the ground is just a tad excessive... or don't you think so? The statement the poster made about "When a cop asks you to do something, you do it." is totally ridiculous. Where in the constitution does it say we must blindly obey authorities? Where does it even suggest that? Have you forgotten that our country would not be if the braver among the colonists HAD NOT obeyed the authorities repressiveness. And no I am not saying the colonist disliked DUI check points but they did not like encroachments on their freedoms.
To try and equate a loud profane woman resisting arrest to America's struggle for freedom is an absolute disservice to out forefathers.
You should be arrested for making such an stupid F--in' comparison.

Good Evening All-
For all the FReepers yelling "Stop the police brutality! No justice, no peace!" you can rest assured that Ms. Sakinah Aaron didn't innocently get roughed-up by a brute. It's practically guaranteed she directly caused her own problems. As explained earlier, a courteous response to the officer like this would have ELIMINATED the entire altercation:
"Sorry, officer. I didn't realize I was shouting so loudly. We had a terrible connection. I'll be certain keep it down if someone else calls. Thanks for the heads-up..."
As a typical example, my interactions with the police are completely voluntary and businesslike. I've NEVER had an officer approach me for ANY reason, with the exception of speeding on my motorcycle a decade ago. I respected him, he respected me and then he warned me to slow it down. We parted with a handshake when he gave me his business card in case I ever felt like selling my immaculate, garage-kept bike. It's really not that difficult to shape your own fate.
Mass-transit commuters understand the misery loudmouths like Sakinah spread in the morning. The HUGE silent majority sits and hopes for an officer to someday make an arrest. Perhaps you wish to sleep, plan your day, or read a book....all of which gets shattered by a self-absorbed, 23-year-old kid yelling in your ear.
As a FReeper who despises Big Government and is very critical of the militarization of the police, this officer did a great job.

Where in the Constitution does it say we must have the mindsets of anarcho-ideologues? Anyone is free to be an infantile Me-ocrat and disobey an officer of the law if they want to, but they would be obligated to accept whichever consequences come.

My money's on the pregnant woman, her attorney, and a sympathetic jury. The cop gets zero sympathy from ANY jury for pushing a pregnant woman to the ground NO MATTER HOW LOUD SHE TALKED....

Wait until they put Sakinah on the stand and the arrogance literally oozes out of her as she bobs her head with each syllable. She should subsequently be fined for the frivolous lawsuit.

but they would be obligated to accept whichever consequences comeThe reality is that when this woman sues the cop and the Metro police, they'll be the ones who'll have to accept the consequences for the cop's actions.
The bottom line is that this woman will win in court. You can take it to the bank....

Hi freebilly-
"Quite the imagination..."
Nope, just a realist. These same knuckleheads who loudly yap on their cellphones on the buses and trains for the duration of a one-hour trip are shocked (shocked!!) when they get called on it. She didn't get into this hot water by being a calm, reasonable person, so she'll be a liability on the stand.

S/he pretends to believe in the concept of individual responsibility for actions, but completely ignores that truism when it comes to an officials even greater responsibility to use power wisely.
CJ's obsession with describing opponents as 'ideologues' has become an FR joke/mantra. It's debatable if s/he even knows what the word means.

knuckleheads who loudly yap on their cellphones on the buses and trains for the duration of a one-hour trip are shocked (shocked!!) when they get called on it1. She wasn't on a bus or train. She was walking into the bus area.
2. She wasn't talking on her cell phone for an hour.
3. What criteria are you using to say that she was talking loudly? Oh..., you're using the criteria of one cop's judgment (a cop who doesn't own or use a cell phone)--a cop who hasn't even been on the force for a year.
4. A decent attorney will make the cop look like a goon and his client look like the Virgin Mary.

Hi freebilly-
- Sakinah was in a confined public area. It would be courteous for her to lower her voice when using the cellular. She has a difficult time with this very simple concept.
- Thirty seconds or thirty minutes of rude shouting is too long. Sakinah should speak quietly out of respect to others in the area.
- Critical of my criteria? You're saying Officer Saoutis doesn't have a cellphone? The person who refuses to carry a cellphone is Robert J. Smith of the Metro Board, as written in the article. Is that you, Dan?
- Officer Saoutis is now a goon? Yeah, policemen bully pregnant girls for lookin' at 'em funny. The defense will make her lose her cool and show her true nasty attitude. How do you think Sakinah would respond to YOU if you asked her to lower her voice. She would tell you to f**k yourself...I've seen this scenario at least ten times in my mass-transit experience.
Does the PRO-RUDENESS / ANTI-COURTESY community have a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. yet? There must be others like you who want to do whatever they want to do at the expense of others. Decent, law-abiding Americans won't stand for aural assaults by people like Sakinah, but promote this rude behavior if you must.

Then I think this is a case where we will just have to agree to disagree, because the woman is bound to end up in jail or paying out mucho bucks in fines in my opinion. Good day to you, FRiend.

In spite of what decent law abiding citizens might think, rudeness is not a criminal offense. If all the rude people were tossed in jail the only people walking the streets would be you and me, and I've my doubts about you....

The Metro police now have a whole string of stupid arrests like handcuffing and imprisoning a 13 y/o girl for eating a french fry. The DC metro system has been plagued with bad press for the last few years and it has been well deserved. This was a bus stop on a busy street, it was noisy, and the woman was already upset, so why in the world does this obviously disturbed cop have to escalate the problem. The cop should be let go because he obviously does not know how to keep the peace. All he has done is get a lot of people around here that much more upset about the direction the Metro has been going.
