1st Amendment? It gives you the right to say what you wish, but does not give you license to force people to listen to you.

Force people? How was she forcing people. Let's not toss around criminal terms if they don't apply.

Does your interpretation mean that if I feel like it I can drive down a residential street at 4:00 am honking my horn for no apparent reason? Isn't my horn simply an extension of my voice?

Red Herring. Stay focused here. I never said anything about car horns. Sheesh!

Then again you could say that it is amplified, sure, then can I walk down that same street and yell at the top of my lungs at the same hour? No you can't, why?

What does 4am have to do with this? Are you saying it's OK to walk down the street shouting at 4pm? Because, actually, it is. End of story.

I am also trying to come to grips with the idea of someone being told to keep it down as being some sort of thought control.

The officer said he doesn't like cell phones. He used "cursing" as his excuse to question this woman. What a hero! As to the bias against cell phones, if you yell while not on a cell phone in the Metro they will tell you to keep it down.

Another red herring. The officer mentioned cell phones. Please try to stay on task here. I am disgusted by all the FReepers who seem to be supporting an agent of the government telling a woman who is not committing a crime to act in a certain way. I support the police in real matters, like here in Portland when a few uncooperative drug fiends have been shot. That, I understand. But tackling a woman for cursing on her phone? RIDICULOUS.

Yes, all the bystanders waiting for their trains, could just leave and be spared this obnoxious woman's verbal diarrhea.

And miss their trains to go to work, but that's OK - this memememe has the right to disturb the peace all she wants. Correct?
