PBS host Jim Lehrer was challenged Friday morning on claims that he went easy on Sen. John Kerry during Thursday night's presidential debate, while tossing verbal hand grenades in President Bush's direction designed to keep him on the defensive.

"I don't know what in the world you're talking about," Lehrer told radio host Don Imus, in his only post-debate interview.

That's what I thought, too. Kerry knew the questions before they were asked. Collusion, anyone?

If the five people that watched MSNBC saw him make an ass out of himself, then so be it.

That's very odd.
Why would Homeland Security come up during a foreign policy debate? Homeland Security is a domestic issue, and this would have been more appropriate in the domestic issue debate.

"Kerry was asked what SPECIFICALLY he would do differently about Iraq, which was a hard question in itself cuz their ain't no answer for that."

NONSENSE!

Kerry SAID he had a plan, then stayed in the round corner refusing to tell us what it is!

GW answered that question at a different time:

STAY THE COURSE!

Absolutely right. Kerry sounded scripted. He probably memorized the performance days earlier. Lehrer will never admit it, but a two year old can connect the dots. Presumably the MSM will continue the pattern, and why not? If it works, don't break it. So the next 'debate' will be more of the same.

Now that Karen and Karl have Kerry's measure, they should be able to innoculate GW. The next debate we'll see the same steadfast GW, but he'll hit harder and won't let Kerry off the hook. But we still need the Swiftboat ad out there, and we need GW ads rebutting Kerry's lies.

The fact that Kerry would raise taxes as well as do away with the tax breaks and rebates. That mandatory military service...bait and switch deal...you serve four years and go to college. If there's money (which there won't). And of course, there definitely won't be enough to pay for the college of your choice.

Meanwhile, Kerry's hanging the 'draft' albatross around GW's neck with the MSM's connivance. All this, plus the security issue for America needs blitzing. Parents, soccer moms and dads, any with teenaged kids...these are people who'll vote their pocketbooks and/or safety of their children/draft. The tax hike issue, outsourcing national security to our enemies...this stuff should sink Kerry. I can't believe this country would be stupid enough to elect that man. Europe, et al. must be delirious with gleeful anticipation.

And if we can prove Kerry was fed the questions days before the debate, that would be unfair surely, but...illegal? DemocRAT dirty tricks. More MSM playbook textbook plays.

Somebody said this morning that Kerry had done so well in the debate. I asked if they'd heard what Kerry had outlined as his policies. Uh, no. They just liked his performance. After I got through talking about tax hikes and mandatory military service and handing the US over to our pals, the UN, I asked which man they'd rather be in a foxhole with....George Hamilton or John Wayne. Because that's exactly the choice, folks, and I know which one I'd choose.

How could Lehrer feed off Kerry's answers when Lehrer wrote them beforehand?

I'm not tin-foil, and I don't really care - today I hear Kerry defending his answers on the stump and that tells me everything I need to know - their internals are telling them something bad happened.

Any time you are asked a question that you don't have an answer to is a hard one. The point is, he has no plan for Iraq, save for ripping of Bush's plan.

Wonder if that has anything to do with Joe Biden hanging out in his campaign?

I noted that too. It looked like a set up. Lehrer wasn't winging it, was he? And, if so, he was winging it only to hit Bush with loaded questions.

"Kerry knew the questions before they were asked. Collusion, anyone?"

Oh, yeah!

That was my opinion halfway through the debate!

Lehrer might have had a large list of questions and when Kerry said something he jumped to that subject. It's a possible explanation as to why Kerry's answers moved seemlessly into Lehrer's questions. But I don't think it explains the lack of 'jumping' to a subject that Bush broached, or Kerry's "we'll talk about that later' remark....

Exactly. It's fair to hold Bush accountable, but it's one-sided to only hold Bush accountable.

It's my understanding that Lehrer could ad lib and was encouraged to do so.

The fact remains, Freepers, that President Bush's "debate negotiating team" -- led by none other than practically "life-long" family friend -- James Baker -- AGREED to Jim Lehrer being the moderator...they HAD to have known that they were taking a risk, and THIS is the consequence of having agreed to Lehrer. The Bush team took a gamble...and lost. Hopefully, they learned something from this and will be a whole lot better prepared when Lehrer's "apprentice" Missy Gwen Eiffel (or whatever her name is) moderate's the next debate.

Let's see... allow the Liberals to frame the questions again, and then agree to the rules that let the Liberals win. Hasn't insanity been defined as doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting different results? Jeesh!

Every supporter of President Bush should contact their Congress critter and demand that National Public Television and Radio be defunded.

They are nothing more than an extension of the Democrat propaganda arm.
