UNITED NATIONS Oct. 4, 2004 Arab nations demanded in a draft U.N. Security Council resolution Monday that Israel immediately halt its incursion into the northern Gaza Strip, where fighting has left at least 65 Palestinians dead.
The draft resolution, submitted to the 15-nation council in an emergency meeting convened at the request of Arab nations, calls for an immediate halt to a major Israeli offensive in the northern Gaza Strip. It also urges Israel and the Palestinians to immediately implement the internationally backed road map peace plan
Algeria's U.N. Ambassador, Abdallah Baali, the only Arab member of the council, requested the open meeting following the nearly weeklong Israeli offensive the largest of its kind launched by Israel in four years in Gaza.
Baali said he hoped for a vote on the draft by Tuesday at the latest.
"Taking into account the gravity, the urgency of the situation, the seriousness of the situation, we need to have the Security Council take a decision quickly," Baali said.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has poured 2,000 troops into the coastal area, vowing they will remain until Palestinians halt rocket attacks against southern Israel. Palestinians say the fighting, which is concentrated in the Jebaliya refugee camp, has destroyed homes, torn up roads and left a kindergarten in rubble.
Israel launched the offensive on Wednesday after a rocket attack on the Israeli town of Sderot killed two young children.
The draft resolution expresses "grave concern at the continued deterioration of the situation on the ground" in Palestinian territories. It also condemns "the broad military incursion and attacks by the Israeli occupying forces ... including in and around the Jebaliya refugee camp, resulting in extensive human casualties and destruction and exacerbating the dire humanitarian situation."
That call was echoed Sunday by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan who, according to his spokesman, said the incursion has "led to the death of scores of Palestinians, among them children."
Israel also found itself involved in a fresh quarrel with the United Nations after the Jewish state accused Gaza militants of using a U.N. vehicle to transport a homemade rocket.
Israeli Ambassador Dan Gillerman called on Annan to investigate Peter Hansen, head of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, after the Israeli army released a video taken by an unmanned aircraft flying over the Jebaliya refugee camp. UNRWA assists Palestinian refugees in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
U.N. spokesman Fred Eckhard said Monday that U.N. investigators had concluded that a folded stretcher was loaded into the vehicle and that Annan "has no reason whatever to doubt Hansen's conclusions."
Annan called Gillerman Monday afternoon to ask what evidence Israel has to support the allegations, Eckhard said.
I feel a 'Disturbance In The Force' - ping.
It is laughable.
Seems like the Pallies forgot to mention what happened to the weddings and baby-milk factories.
Where's the clause condemning Palestinean hate studies and killing Jewish grandmas on buses?

You mean dinner with a kick?
Mo-bots are being offed left and right. I have no complaints.
Not a "disturbance"....just a small tremor. Notice the lack of "urgency" in the Iranian situation ?
To Arab Nations : Try to stop them, if you dare.

Not only does the UN serve chicken(sh*t) soup in its cafeteria, it also serves alphabet soup from time to time. You'll probably find the clause in a bowl there at lunchtime. You just have to arrange the letters yourself.
(By the way, Arabs get free crackers. Everyone else has to pay.)
#1: Presidential election within 30 days, thus capitalizing on American politics restraining any US resistance.
#2: US Forces occupied in Iraq and Afghanistan.
#3: Iran gloating on possessing missiles capable of hitting Jerusalem.
#4: Iran gloating on having a 'nuclear capability' within months.
#5: North Korea chest pounding over having nukes, testing advanced weaponry, blah blah . .
#6: (this is my favorite) Kofi Anan, his son and the upper crust at the UN, Germany, France, Russia and Communist China up to their necks in "Oil-For-Food-For-Terrorism"
Add at will ...
Of course, the Arab nations are impotent, so they try to do it through the U.N.
