COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas radio station is severing its ties with CBS News after receiving hundreds of complaints about the network's coverage of President Bush's military record.
Bryan-College Station radio station WTAW will begin airing national news from ABC within 90 days, station manager Ben Downs said.
About 350 people wrote to the station to complain about CBS' discredited "60 Minutes" report on Bush's National Guard service.
The network's Sept. 8 report centered on questionable memos that suggested Bush got preferential treatment because of his family ties. Anchor Dan Rather later offered an on-air apology on behalf of CBS News because the network could not authenticate the documents.
The apology wasn't enough for this station about 100 miles northwest of Houston.
"I don't think CBS has a defensible position on this," Downs said in Wednesday's online edition of the Bryan-College Station Eagle. "I feel a little checking would have found these were old claims."
WTAW features a lineup of conservative talk show hosts. It has aired national news from CBS at the top of the hour since the mid-1980s.

Hurrah!
I got an email reply from KJCE in Austin that they are a CBS owned station. I let them know that on the hour break when the commie news comes on, I change channels, sometimes forgeting to dial back.

You're right, Steve. It would have been better for the radio station to go completely out of business.

So true.
(Ah, fond memories . . . while at college, went to a concert (Kansas University, 1974) to see the headline band 'Mott The Hoople', who were fantastic however, remember thinking at the time; Holy crap!!! This warm-up band ROCKS!!! Queen, with Freddie Mercury, was the warm-up band then. The rest is history . . . )
