There's a much better looking process that was recently outlined in the magazine "Science" (I think it was). Basically any organic stuff (in this case, turkey guts) is fed into one end. And light-sweet crude oil and a few basic chemicals like calcium is taken from the other.

The process basically pressure cooks it and then flashes it into what amounts to an oil refinery cracker.

Or something like that.

They're operating a production plan on the turkey guts, and they've tested it on city trash, municipal sewer waste, grass, and other organic stuff.

I have heard rumours about some groups protesting the cracking process, saying it is not efficent enough and bad for the enviroment.

But these are the same people who think killing off 2/3 of the worlds population would be better for the enviroment.

Discover magazine, May 2003.

I couldn't find a decent reprint of the article (it's not online at discover.com anymore), but here is a brief discussion of it.

If you want to search for it yourself, look for "thermal depolymerization", "turkey", and "carthage".
