A controversial resolution on independence for Serbia's southern province of Kosovo has been withdrawn from the US Congress House International Relations Committee.
The resolution had been proposed by Committee Chairman Henry Hyde and deputy Tom Lantosh. B92 learnt this morning from the office of the Serbian president that it was withdrawn after the State Department intervened.
[N.B. "Separation precedes federation." V.I. Lenin.]
Like the nation-state, independence is particularly redundant in a sector already "democratized."
Does Hyde and Lantos have any connections to the ALbanian lobby?
I don't have the time to scan it right now, but you might find some worthwhile links/names for initial scavenging on this thread: Bob Dole & Kosovo: Concurrent Resolution 150 and Other Puzzle Pieces
Lantos does. Try this link - for example.
Lantos doesn't care about the implications of what an independent Kosovo whould be (or mean) to Serbs.

We spent $87B for the freedom of Afghanistan and Iraq, right? How much did Clinton shell out for a mission that he claimed would return our troops by November of 1998? I thought I heard about $77B and we're not done. So what "quagmire" would we like to discuss next?
[So what "quagmire" would we like to discuss next?.....
Well, we'll have to wait until after the upcoming presidential election and then get into next year.
The next "quagmire" may end up being the very country that's trapped between the two countries you mentioned (Afghanistan and Iraq). Namely, Iran could, in all probability, become the next "quagmire" - regardless of who the president is.
In the meantime... SerbsForBush.com
Thanks Marko. Yes, J. Kerry would not be good for us because I could see R. Holbrooke once again becoming involved in US foreign policy (assuming Kerry were to be elected). And, Holbrooke has already publicly called for the independence of Kosovo.
