I have had the RNC, NRA, and the Bush campaign call me for money in this way asking me if I would like to donate over the phone. I said I didn't want to give my credit card info out, so they agreed to send me a form so I can mail them money. I did recieve the form and made my contribution that way (to the Bush campaign).

The reason they got my number to begin with though was I made a contribution early on (small one).

Once you contribute they got your name in their database and they will constantly barrage you with postal mail and phone calls. I get postal mail from the RNC almost every day. It's sickening.

I wish they got the message I won't give them any more money so they can stop wasting postage on me and use it towards something more productive.

But uh yeah, I suspect that is probably a legit phone call as that has happened to me as well. The reason it may say out of area on your caller ID is because the phone banks are likley to be in Washington DC, as on my caller ID it always comes up a 202 area code, which is DC.

oh please, it isn't ((sickening)). Stop over reacting. All you have to do is throw it in the trash or recycle the paper if it has any blank sides for note paper or notify them to take your name off their list. You can't have it both ways. This is a very important time and they, as expected by us are doing their job.

I hate to be cynical but don't you think scam artists are located in DC too. I've donated plenty to the RNC via their mailings and I have NEVER gotten a phone call from them pressure asking for my credit card number.

You could be right; although I gave him the opportunity to send me info via US mail. He,instead, continued requesting my card number and asking for smaller donations.

I just sent an email to campaign headquarters and will wait to see what their response is.
