I was almost stuck at La Paz. On a lay-over flight to Asuncion, I got out at LaPaz and had a beer and a smoke. I had no idea that I was at 11,000 ft. Got woozy and all happy until I saw a Bolivian soldier running towards me, waving his gun. "Senor! Senor!"
My plane was leaving, and I hadn't noticed. The crazy bastards ran out across the airfield, waving their arms to stop the plane, while another set pushed the stairs towards it. The plane stopped somewhere on the tarmac. I just kinda stumbled along, and climbed up to the plane. They gave me another drink once onboard....
I think La Paz is the highest commercial airport with regular service. I can only imagine how that must have felt...passengers jets pressurize at that altitude.
That reminds me. Once I was waiting for a plane in Dallas and saw Charles Nelson Reilly (waiting for a plane as well) in a bar so I decided to sit in. To make a long story short I later got on the wrong plane. When they found out I didn't belong on that plane I had to get my bag out of the upper compartment. There was a packet of suger lying on the shelf and when I slid my bag off it poured down a guys neck.
Wow, next chance I get, I am going.
