While I appreciate the science and ingenuity behind this, I am also wary of the destruction of individual freedom that will inevitably flow from this. It is reminiscent of Romania under the ugly Ceaucescu Communist dictatorship/police state, where printing samples were taken from every typewriter so that the State could trace political dissent to the typewriter that produced it. Imagine how this could be misused with a Hillary as President (god forbid).
I agree, That is one good way to keep dissenters from writing letters to the editor. BTW, if one was intent on doing evil with a printer, would one not buy a cheep one, do the evil, then destroy it?
